It’s all just a big scam. They bump the price 40% but this time no one should buy anything. Get another hobby. By paying these high prices you the enthusiast enable them to charge what they please. But if their shit just sits on a shelf they will have to lower prices. I have other hobbies, but I did want to build a new pc, and have wanted to for awhile now.. but now I could care less. I could make my rig last. And if it doesn’t, well I guess I still have my phone, and the great out doors.

Maybe I should make a run to the nearest store and buy that SSD that's been sitting on my wishlist for a while...

This is normal with oligopolies and lack of competition. NAND price fixing, massive GPU price increases...etc... Not much to do about though except to bend over and pay up sooner or later...

Bring on the conspiracies. (Good job throwing the Samsung incident in there, like an incident that only caused millions in damages could spur this.)

This totally cannot be related to the fact that people roll their eyes when their new smartphone comes with less than 128GB storage, while fabs cost billions to build.

Of course not, but it does show us that this stuff does happen and its not always that easy to prevent. In fact more often than not, its a pretty vulnerable process altogether... You won't hear me saying its a healthy market anyway :p

In other words: more same ole same same lame lame stories of doom & gloom, all in carefully (but repeatedly similar) crafted plan to raise prices, boost profits, and capitalilze on consumer's fears of market domination.....

I bought a 2TB Crucial MX500 for $230 today. It's been $199 during last summer but the price rose to this point during Fall 2019.

So maybe i did well to early adopt on them gen 4 nvme's (tho they will probably drop in price a bit more before samsung jacks up pricing again and the rest like toshiba follow)
