Nasty virus and files on USB drive

I don't understand Linux. And for information, the virus is not from a porn site, but from a very well made site with Mortal Kombat 11.
To ask if I can check the flash drive in Virustotal once or should I check the files one by one.

The bootable linux are easy to use, it's worth learning how because a windows virus cannot infect linux

read their guide, install and boot from it - backup any important files (scan them!) and then format the portable drive the viruses may be left on

Mint or Ubuntu should work just fine

This would work assuming the files needing to be recovered are not the infected ones.
