hey, i no NOTHING about intel processors. i have always used AMD, however i have a dell dimension 2400 with a P 4 2.66 Northwood and would like to use it to build a new rig. what would be a good choice for a mobo, and how well do they overclock? how high do you think i can get with it?

the socket 478 motherboards were crap, just sell the processor

478 is like a late 462 and an early 754....so what you gonna find these days is matx with via chips. So OCing is out of the pictures. I would focus on getting a board with just a decent chipset such as the intel, or look through ebay and see if you can get on with a nforce chipset (if they made one, which i doubt), so you can oc.

you can look into the p4c800 series from asus, they run for about $100 on ebay and from the looks of it is probably the best budget minded overclocking socket 478 motherboard around.

right on, thanks guys, i will keep looking. a micro board might be a good way to go, cause i was thinking about a little computer for under my tv to use as a multi media tivo dvd player music player thing. so thanks. :toast:
