So I got a macbook sitting here and it literally will not boot mac discs..
Tried Os 10.4 and 10.5, CD and DVD sets.. Spins em up and spits em out.

Now here comes the funny part...

The stinkin thing will run a Windows XP disc and even start the install...

The images are good the discs are good.. I am at a COMPLETE loss here... I can't run the diagnostics, can't start the setup..

Yeah, I rolled by that myself shortly after I encountered the issue.

:-/

Ugh I find it really funny but annoying.

Here is something in 10.6 install info about the optical drive install problem

Here is the update page at apple, maybe they have a fix or update that may address the issue

How about the latest EFI update for your macbook?

Sorry I can't help much, but at least I try.:)

Edit: Did you read the thing about trying an external drive, wonder if you could do a usb stick?

Ya, I think it might be that it's not compatible with Os 10.4 and I don't have 10.5 or newer discs and they are dual layer... Which I don't have any of those sitting around either.

Ugh, I guess I can install Vista on it... LOL

Thanks for the help

Get me the serial number so I can look at the specs and determine what OS(es) it does or does not support. It's in the battery bay.

If you have another Mac you can start your macbook in "target" mode by holding down "T" during power up. That will make the computer into a giant firewire drive. Then simply hood up another mac to it and it will read as an external HD. Format and install from there.

Its an Intel Mac. It supports everything including snow leopard.
