I have a Windows 2008 web server that I want to setup a vpn with a cisco asa appliance. The issue is microsoft thought it would be a good idea to remove RRAS licensing from the web edition come 2008. So I need some piece of software that will interact with an asa. Im hoping the cisco client can do what I need. But the last time I tried it, it was failing most of the time.

Are you using cisco anyconnect?

I hadnt tried that. Previously I was working with the Cisco VPN client version 5. But my supervisor is waiting to hear back as our cisco support or whatever is required to dl it expired.

Teamviewer stand-alone host should work & it's free. Unsure of what features you would need.

Is this for remote access only?

How is teamviewer VPN?

As for the VPN issue, the thread is confusing me, you want a VPN server for Windows yet the Cisco ASA is related. Either the ASA is the VPN server or Windows is. If the Windows machine is behind the ASA you simply need to forward port 1723 and allow gre packets. If the ASA is the server and the windows machine is the client, use anyconnect. Or you could specify "it was failing most of the time".

They're on seperate sites. The asa at one, a Windows Web server on the other.

I had tested the cisco vpn client in Windows xp 64bit. Most of the time it would fail to bring up the adapter it used for the VPN connection. 32 bit it was fine.

I'll be sure to try anyconnect as well. Thanks.

@jrracingfan. We want to be able to share files and services from one site to the other. So remote desktop would not work for this.
