Hello! I am planning to upgrade my system in the near future and need advice on the parts that I've chosen. I'll mostly be using it for gaming at 1080p, video editing, and potential streaming. I don't plan to overclock, however I might undervolt if it's worth my time. I do not want to use an Intel system as their new processors require Windows 11 for their E-cores to work, and I'm not willing to make that switch. My goal is to keep the price around $800, including the monitor.

This is the best combination I was able to come up with:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 3.4 GHz 8-Core Processor ($189.00 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Black 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI B550-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($76.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00)
Storage: Western Digital Black 1 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00)
Storage: Western Digital Black 1 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00)
Video Card: MSI MECH 2X OC Radeon RX 6650 XT 8 GB Video Card ($249.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Silverstone RL06 ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $0.00)
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $0.00)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM - DVD 64-bit (Purchased For $0.00)
Monitor: LG 24GN600-B 24.0" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor ($150.00)
Total: $805.97

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The main reason I went AIO. To get decent tempts on air your cooler is obnoxiously large (and often times loud).

I've always used air cooling so I can't compare. With that said I've never had any issues.

I'm not trying to sound snarky but this isn't really a concern given your scenario because 1.The 2 most obvious lga 1700 cpus in your price range don't even have e cores (12500 and 12600 non k) and 2. On most motherboards you can simply just turn off e cores via bios and never have to worry about it again.

I didn't know you could disable them, nice to know. However, going with AMD gets me two extra cores compared to the intel processors you listed.

Nope, you can get a small air cooler that is both quiet, small, and good performing. The Noctua NH-U12A for example

Air coolers are still king when it comes to acoustic efficiency as well.

You really have to get an AIO over 240mm in size in order to get lower temps than you could have gotten with air and at that point you are already taking a ton of space in your case whether you go AIO or air. A 360mm loop is not small.

I know an Nvidia card would suit my needs a lot better, however they're a lot more expensive right now and can't justify spending $70-100 more for the same performance compared to AMD cards.
Hi,
Looks good but this combo has better bang for bucks for another 130.us

Might check micro center to if you have one around I saw a combo there to with a msi tomahawk.
If I get some extra cash down the road, I might switch to this instead. Thanks for showing me this.

However, going with AMD gets me two extra cores compared to the intel processors you listed.
Which is nice in theory but practically wise it's a wash since those cores are weaker. The 12600 non K (which is slower than the current midrange raptor lake chips) for example tested 7% faster than the 5700x in 1080p gaming and only 1.5% slower in the overall application test.

I'm not saying don't buy the 5700X, i'm saying don't let E-cores or it having 2 more physical cores be the reason why because both those things are meaningless in real world usage. The Intel also gives you a decently superior upgrade path (higher-end 12th gen or any of the 13th gen you can get later down the road). There's even rumors that 14th gen might be on the same socket as well as a raptor lake refresh

AM4 is great for ultra budget new builds but for most mid-tier builds or higher I'd rather do Intel or save a little more for AM5 (I wish motherboards where cheaper on AM5 because it would make it a much more viable option for the average build)

Your build looks good, and I think for those on a tight budget, the AM4 planform with DDR4 has a good amount of life left in it. The only thing I would add, is a 512Gb PCI 3.0 NvME drive, which can be had for around 30$ to 35$ and would give you better performance than the SSD.

You might also want to see where the closest Micro Center is and take a look at their combo deals.

AM5 Deal AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, ASUS B650E-F ROG Strix Gaming WiFi, G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit, Computer Build Combo - Micro Center (Would rase your budget by 70$)
AM4 Deal AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, ASUS B550-F ROG Strix Gaming WiFi II, CPU / Motherboard Combo - Micro Center (Would lower your cost by 29$)

AM4 only makes sense for a 5800X3D build at this point.

Go 13600K if you can afford it, and if you can't, 12400.

E cores, 10/11 is irrelevant.

What you're really doing is trying to compromise, and ending up with a last gen build with performance from around two years ago.

In my opinion, this is a complete waste of $800.

It's the same for spending money on a 1080p display, if you aren't an esports player getting a 480 Hz display, it's silly.

Get 1440p or 4K.

Your argument for "same performance as NVIDIA but $100 cheaper" is also strange, considering in the workloads you'll be doing, AMD is not the same performance as NVIDIA.

If you're streaming, E cores are extremely useful at mitigating performance lost.

10/11 is irrelevant, just use process lasso if you really care that much about potential lost performance by the wrong scheduler decision (not a big problem).

So I've started to realize that my assumptions were a bit naïve. I've decided to make a new list after reading all of the suggestions and came up with this:

CPU: Intel Core i5-12400 2.5 GHz 6-Core Processor ($182.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler ($42.90 @ Amazon)

Monitor: LG 24GN600-B 24.0" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor ($150.00)
Total: $1068.08

I've decided to keep the monitor since my main goal with this build is to play games at 1080p at a high refresh rate (and it's still a huge upgrade compared to what I currently have). I'm willing to bite the bullet for an Nvidia card since they have many features that cater to content creation (NVENC, CUDA, etc). This is the best I was able to come up with, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you're doing content creation then I'd look at the 13400 or 13400F (no integrated graphics). The G.Skill Flare series RAM has AMD Expo but I'd make sure it has XMP for your Intel build. One other thing to keep in mind. The RTX 4070 and 4060 are due for release this April and if those cards are anything like the recent 40XX cards that have been released they are going to be gaming beast. The 4060 should have a MSRP of $400. The 4070 Ti literally destroys the more expensive 3080 so that gives you an idea of what the 4060 might do vs the 3060 Ti.

For the same price here's a monitor with a higher refresh rate and G-Sync Compatible.

Unlike the Thermalright Assasin, this cooler has no problems clearing the heatsinks on the typical motherboard.

I’d still consider the Assassin, just check to see if it fits. It won’t matter much with an i5 but it’s a significantly better cooler than the AK500.

Motherboard: ASRock B760 Pro RS ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory ($112.22 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00)
Storage: TEAMGROUP MP33 512 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital WD_BLACK 1 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00)
Storage: Western Digital WD_BLACK 1 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00)
Video Card: Zotac GAMING Twin Edge OC GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR 8 GB Video Card ($409.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Silverstone RL06 ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $0.00)
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $0.00)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM - DVD 64-bit (Purchased For $0.00)
Monitor: LG 24GN600-B 24.0" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor ($150.00)
Total: $1068.08

I've decided to keep the monitor since my main goal with this build is to play games at 1080p at a high refresh rate (and it's still a huge upgrade compared to what I currently have). I'm willing to bite the bullet for an Nvidia card since they have many features that cater to content creation (NVENC, CUDA, etc). This is the best I was able to come up with, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Consider this memory kit (Intel XMP) over the one you have listed (AMD EXPO). It's also much lower latency (CL30 vs. CL36)

A $30 cooler will handle either of these cpu's. The AK500 is overkill if anything.

Hi,
That gpu would do well on 5800x3d as well with no need for a cpu later
Then you can only upgrade storage later.

Then he can get a cpu cooler that doesn't interfere with the heatsinks and there's plenty of them starting with the Deepcool AK620, AG620, Noctua nh-d15, be quiet! dark rock pro 4, etc ...
