I would suggest nabbing up some used parts in that list, you could save a ton of loot.

For instance, the price on a new 285 seems ludicrous at this point with the new cards so close to release.

The cooler, it will work, but pricey for the lack of high end performance.

Take a look around I bet you can cut quite a chunk off, and maybe pay for the better PSU, or even a bigger screen?

One of the screens is actually a birthday present for my mother, she has a blurry old 17" CRT monitor for her computer. The second screen is for my existing computer. I have an HDTV I ordered on its way here that I plan to use for this new build. As for PSUs and a cooler, can you recommend any? I used that Zalman cooler for a number of older builds and liked it, but if there is something better that works with i7's I'm open to suggestions.

If you plan to clock pretty high the 920 can turn into a small furnace, so coolers of the older gen are sorta not up to the task. Depending on how far I clock my i7 860 I can make my Noctua D14 cry.

I agree with the above PSU recommendations.

That's not nearly as high end as you described earlier.

Anyway, dump the Rosewill PSU. Not saying it won't work, just saying that most people won't vouch for it. Pick a Corsair. Any Corsair. 650W is plenty.

Switch the Zalman to something that's worth the money. Xigmatek S-1283, Cooler Master Hyper 212+ on the cheaper side and the Noctua NH-D14, Scythe Mugen 2, Thermalright Venomous X, Ultra 120 Extreme, and the Prolimatech Megahalems on the high/higher end.

I didn't know that the 80GB X25-M cost $290. (Thought it was like $200) I don't know if it's worth it at that price. Here's a used 160 GB Gen1 Intel SSD for $300. Even though it doesn't have TRIM, that's a better deal than a 80GB SSD with TRIM, IMO. Alternatively, If you want to have more capacity, here's a new 120GB Agility for only $80 more.

You can also get a 5870 for the price of that GTX 285. The 5870 is about 25% faster.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the help, I went ahead and ordered it. I switched to a corsair brand PSU as suggested, but I was stubborn and kept the Zalman heatsink..I've never had issues with them. As for GTX 285 vs the 5870, I don't doubt it's faster but I'm trying to stay away from ATI cards. Lately I've been playing a lot of Darkfall and Final Fantasy XI, both of which run quite poorly with ATI drivers compared to nVidia. I don't say that as a fanboy, I'm currently running a 4870X2 in this build, it's just how it is.

I've never actually had a SLI or Crossfire setup before, this will be my first time. Is there anything special I have to do with my two 285's? Like those SLI bridges I used to see and such, or were those done away with?

but you live near MICROCENTER!!! i7 920s are at 199$!!!!

also, read: THis Guide for Public Wishlists instantly

btw, angelkiller, the SSD is at 220$ not 290... 290 is before instant rebate

I agree that this cooler doesn't look that great... i7's run VERY HOT, a very good HSF would have been of preference... a s1283v or Scythe Mugen 2 would have been good too

School buses make me very angry on days when I'm awaiting deliveries. The parts I ordered should be here soon, everytime I hear a school bus I mistake it for a UPS truck and get excited.

Edit: Just arrived! Assembly time =)

i hope you have a high end audio system to go with that, its a great card, ive got mine hooked up to a 1400w amp with PSB t6 towers and 7.2 surround sound, two 1000w 12" subs.. rock the house!, you should hear BC2 on this beast

but i honestly cant enderstand the rational behind 285 for 380 dollars, when i could have a 5870 for 390

with all that poker money you should set up eyefinity and play three games at once! triple your gains! its helped out my stock trading ALOT!
