I can get a 7900 XTX for $910 (XFX) or a 4080 Super for $1075 (Gigabyte). I game @ 1440P and don't really use ray tracing... though to counter that point I haven't really had a card that was playable with ray tracing on. I think I've hit a point of review overload as I've been down this rabbit hole for a couple weeks now.

Buy the 7900XTX. If you still haven’t bothered with RT, nothing is game changing about it at this point.

I own both a 7900XTX and a 4080S, and for most of the games im playing its about 8-11% faster with no RT @1440p max settings.

It's a no brainer to get the 7900 XTX if you're not going to use any RT or CUDA/AI stuff. You're also saving $150+ to boot.

Well now is your chance with the 4080s but as other have said if you're not interested in RT then go the XTX as it is a fair bit cheaper.

IIRC, the 7900 does a little worse in frame time comparison (vs 4080,
and not everyone needs to use RT, to make an RTX card a valid option.

i would check the nearest Microcenter.
they tend to carry open box units, and unless there is visible damage, always worth a try.
just run heaven/valley/3D mark Vantage to look for any trouble.

Personally I'd get the 4080 Super. Close enough avarage performance, but better features. Get the 7900XTX if you are extremely certain you will not use the GPGPU stuff or RT for as long as you will keep the card. Keep in mind upcoming games and that you might be interested in RT at some point.

I never bother with RT, I just wanted the quickest card possible.
If I was having to decide between these, I would go with the XTX.
I would of gone with the XFX card aswell, since my previous card was a 6800XT XFX.

Thanks folks, I ended up getting both, lol. I have multiple gaming pcs in the house (mine, wife's, kids, guest).

The corsair pump+reservoir in my custom loop literally exploded and took a bunch of components with it. I've had horribly bad luck with custom loops over the years so I think I'm done with water cooling. Used it as an excuse to completely rebuild my PC and swapped what worked upgraded my wife's pc and then trickle down effect for the other pcs.

Good choice to evaluate both, 24 GB on the XTX is nice in some situations too. Check out DLAA/DLDSR if you haven't already. RT, CUDA/professional software and efficiency are by far not the only advantages of NVIDIA cards.

If you haven't given up on custom loops, Optimus Watercooling have the best parts on the market, made in USA by ex NASA staff. Their GPU blocks are only designed for FE/Strix cards though, due to cost of design/manufacture etc.

@Flak
sorry to hear about the failure.
did you get with corsair? i know most of their LC stuff has coverage that includes any component that gets killed.

if it exploded, its probably because one of the following:
no pressure relieve valve (any non AIO should have it)
using deionized water (vs distilled)
silver based biocide
exposed (mixed) metals reacting

unless some flawed design (mfg), outside above mentioned, never had any trouble on any LC (aio or custom)
that i used myself/installed for customers in the past 20y.

Dlss and frame gen is acctually insanely good. My buddy has rtx 4070s and he go without around 65-70 fps Cyperpunk all ultra + raytracing ultra. And with DLSS on max quality and frame gen he gets 120 fps.. There is no chance at all for me to say i would prefer the 65-70 fps vs the 120fps and there is no artefacts or anything to really see that "native" looks better if you play and not zoom on screenshots. Fsr 2 can't come close to this picture quality and with dlss and with frame gen on top it may give you the ability to play with very high fps even at 4k for the future games. I know AMD has now fsr 3 / frame gen tech but it isn't working properly nor is the quality the same as dlss. So with this features ON the 7900xtx has zero chance to keep with the fps performance. Not to even mention the more efficient power performance when watching simple videos or gaming on the 4080s. It awso has good undervolting performance as well. No brainer to go with the 4080S.
