Hello, I have a 6 years old Acer Aspire v7-582pg equipped with i7 4500u and a gt 750m. I've tried a few searchings on how to overclock the i7 4500u but can't seem to find a clear result. There's some people saying it's possible to overclock it and some don't. What are your thoughts?

most assembly line made laptops and PC dont overcleck very well, the parts are cheap and shouldnt be trusted.

Thanks for the advice. This laptop is like 3125$+ back in the 2014 it was considered as a high-end gaming laptop and I don't think it's cheap.

It was definitely not a high end gaming laptop, and if those are US dollars it was more than twice as much as it should have been, even back then. In any case the cooling in those things were apparently not great, meaning overclocking is a bad idea.

Perhaps you're right. I just wanna up the performances a bit since the cpu can only hold up to 2.7 GHz when all cores used so I wanted to make it at least 3 GHz or higher.

It's supposed to boost to 3 Ghz, if it can't the cooling is insufficent. If you haven't yet, clean the cooler and repaste with some good stuff. What the good stuff is I don't know though.

Even if it was possible, it would throttle down with any cpu intensive task anyway.

The laptop hasn't cleaned ever since. But now I have ordered silver arctic mx-4 so I guess it's a big improvement.

Ah. Yeah it'll get better for sure. There's better stuff than MX4 if you are really serious about it, but that's as far as my knowledge goes.

Which thermal paste would you suggest? I took the mx-4 because it lasts longer and I wanna use it on my other new laptop.

The 4500U has a locked multiplier. You get the 30 multiplier when 1 core is active and the 27 multiplier when 2 cores are active. Raising the BCLK speed is not an option.

Thanks for advice. I guess I'll just clean the fan and replace the thermal paste since it was thermal throttling the whole time.
