Hey guys!

I have a friend who wants to start recording music (bass guitar) using a PC and he also wants to be able to stream live as well as record video that he can upload to the web. I guess he will be doing interviews and streaming and or uploading for people to view.

I can build a kick ass gaming rig or any PC for that matter but I have no experience with what he wants to do and I want to make sure I build him a PC that will work well for his needs without breaking the bank. I also want to make sure that money is spent on the right components Vs parts that might not be as important.

So he requires just the PC, a good mic or two, a good web cam or alternative, and software to do the different things he wants to do like recording video, editing, streaming, and for audio, recording and mixing.

What is most important as in which PC part will make the most difference in order of priority so he spends more money where it's needed most? I know the sound card will have to be a good one I would think to allow him to run his guitar through. So some way to input the guitar, or you tell me whats needed as I'm clueless.

And if anyone can recommend software or multiple software to do what I described please post it up.

This is a tall order so I do appreciate any help.

His PC budget is around 1000$ as he already has speakers, monitor, keyboard + mouse. He can raise that budget if needed but he is trying to spend the least amount possible. He's willing to work with the budget to get a PC and software package that will do whats needed.

If I don't get help here I will search some other forums but I thought since this is my home tech site that I'd start with you guys.

Thanks!!

For video editing you're going to want a good CPU and good amount of RAM, Depending on the type of editing and how intensive I would say 8 to 16GB RAM, 2.6Ghz 8-Core CPU as a minimum. Intel i7 or AMD FX series is a good start. For video editing I would recommend a 1TB HDD or 500GB SDD as video recording and rendering of videos take a lot of space. I have no clue as to recording music, It shouldn't take that much computer power. An average graphics card should be put in, not high end, definitely not low end, but good. ASUS R7360-OC-2GD5-V2 graphics card is a good one. Definitely get quiet case fans that do the job. 700WATT PSU should do the job, I recommend your friend any of the elgato video capture products. As far as live streaming, 95% based off of internet speed so he better have some good internet. Thermaltake V4 case is good and should fit you or Cooler Master Elite 430 mid tower case.
MSI Intel Z97 LGA 1150 or ASUS M5A99FX or Sabertooth 990FX are good motherboards. Liquid cooling is good... IF IT FITS.

you may want to consider a dedicated SSD for the video editing working/temp files (OS on its own SSD). RAID 1 spinners for for the final videos.

I don't if he is specific about the CPU to be Intel or AMD. But because of the requirements you asked for I went with AMD processor because it has more cores and in the budget you asked. Here is the list:

If you want Intel you please let me know.

I use my build under my specs
Also
I also have a Forcusrite Scarlett 2i2 ...........$150
Sterling Audio ST51 Condenser mic......... $65
Software is Mixcraft 7 64 Bit .........................$100 .............Love this software
A couple of nice monitor speakers

Its all works pretty well. Results are great, however there is a slight latency with real time effects.
Not a big deal. I can't believe I'm saying this but if your serous about recording audio get a high end Mac
But the Scarlett 2i2 is a great tool.

Definitely avoid AMD CPUs right now

I agree with you even I prefer and recommend Intel CPU over AMD but in this case he will be running many processes side by side will i-7 4core 8thread will do the job over AMD 8core not sure that is the only reason I went with AMD
