need new headphones for a basshead

okay, my Sennheiser HD202 is screwed
need another one that suits me.
im thinking of 70-110US$ price range.
criteria :
1. headphone (circum-aural or supra-aural)
2. closed or open back doesnt matter
3. loads of bass but not sacrificing the mids and highs
4. easy to drive as i dont have an amp
5. sound characteristic like the CX300 <loved them>

im thinking of Senn HD215 and Senn HD448 also the HD555
but im open for another recommendation

Head-Fi is your friend. And I'm not advertising, I just think you'll get a whole lot of better suggestions there.

And as far as I can remember, 555 won't satisfy your bass head needs.
I also had a pair of 215's but I can't remember what they were like, I just know that they were closed and you couldn't hear shit with them on. And I suggest you look for Ultra**** (Ultra-something, I can't remember the name ) as they were always regarded as the superb basshead cans. Although I'm not too sure whether they would fit your budget, but they would definitely be worth it.

Byerdynamics DT770 80ohm will be your best friend. Look them up on Head-Fi they are everything that you are looking for. the mids are slightly recessed but over the best affordable cans with the amount of bass you want. Ive had mine for a year and i absolutely love them.

The Audio Technica M50's are quite a popular headphone over on Head-Fi too..along with the Beyer 770, 880 and 990 are all popular, and the Denon D2000's. I have the Denons and love em...comfy, light and more bass than I can handle if I crank the EQ up too aggressive. But they are also pricey. I had great luck with my JVC HARX700's, they're bigger and heavier and are ok comfort-wise, but they hit about as hard as the D2000's and can be EQ'd to sound pretty competitive. I don't mind using an EQ to extract the sound I want though. Check out my headphone thread (link in sig) for a bunch of TPU member's and staff's own headphone reviews, might be something that catches your attention there...might not. Good luck in your search, I suppose if you have a guitar store or something similar nearby that sells a variety of headphones, it might be worth a shot to give that a go. And also what you're powering the headphones with can make a huge difference too...especially when going from onboard to a dedicated sound card...but some use a dedicated amp + onboard...too many options lol! Again, good luck with your search.

Not An Expert On Headsets But Love The Creative MKII

Creative Fatal1ty Professional Series Gaming Heads...

I got 2 sets for $34.99 each during a shellshocker deal and they are incredible for music and out of this world for gaming. I was playing Bioshock 2 last night connected to my PC with an X-Fi Fatality and was so immersed and the bass is very powerful but a bit more sloppy with the Creative Labs card. The MKII really shines with the Asus Xonar DS that I've been using a lot lately. At $89.99 they fit your budget and are very good but shop around the web and I'm almost certain you could get them elsewhere for around $60. I gave the Newegg link primarily so you check the product out and perhaps read the reviews.

At 32ohms they do not require a headphone amp.

Grado SR-60i are also good if you are looking for bass. They might be a bit bright as well since their frequency response is U-shaped. You should be able to get those for around $100 as well.

SR80i is around 100.. Beware though, out of the box, bass is there, but the lower bass is lacking. The higher tight bass is there. However, a bit of bass boost (well for me a slide in the soundcard's bass level), and the sr80i responds to it very well.. bass is still tight, offers depth, never boomy or bloated.

Since you like the cx300, I think youd be more acquainted with grado.. I heard the cx300 once back then, and heard the mids on them prominent (vocals was loud on them from what I remember), and has punchy bass. A bit flat also. The SR80i is a bit flat as well.. lacks some soundstage.. more like first row seat.

SR80i also have low impedence. Can be powered well without an amp.

The HFI-780s they are more expensive though. There are also BeyerDynamic DT770 but they do not sound as well to my ears. Audio-technica M50s are also good but price is still high.

theyre only have some known sennheisers and AKGs, AudioTechnica is still rare..

Buy one of the above on the internet from another country if you have to. The 2xx closed back series from Sennheiser suck, both construction and sound wise, they cannot be recommended.

Definitely AT M50, but they are above your price range. Grado's are NOT for a basshead. On the low end, Senn PX-100 is also great for a basshead.

Hows is that there is 1-2 dB diff between the two in the sub 200 Hz department, which means that it is almost inaudible. And the bass of the SR60s is more linear without odd bumps...
