So I purchased a 2060 Founders last week, I believe I still have the ability to take it back. But I really wanted to find out if upgrading from an R9 390 was a good upgrade? I really cannot tell as there are no benchmarks for these 2 cards. Opinions and some closure would be nice. I like RTX and I think it's, for sure, a really fun tech even with performance drops. But I am wondering about performance down the line for games, I like to get the best bang for my buck whenever I can.

Honestly before rehashing this whole thing all over again. Only you can make that determination if it was a good upgrade. gpucheck.com can provide some better insight for you. But at the end of the day it is you and your pocketbook. I too am in a similar dilemma. I am waiting for my RMA replacement to show up. I sent in a R9 390 and getting a rx480. Should I wait another week or 2 for Radeon 7 to come out and take that gamble. What should I buy or be content with the 480 or swap the 1070 in my daughters rig out and put the 480 there? I feel you made a good decision with the 2060.

2060 is leaps and bounds faster than an r9 390. Uses a ton less power as well.

And have more features. And can be overclocked better.

2060 is newer tech.
2060 uses less power.

I had a pair of R9-390s and ended up swapping them for two 1070s. They were faster in benches.

You have to do a bit of work for such age old comparisons.

1. Your monitor is 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz... not like we gonna be able to find benchies for that resolution, so will use 1080p

2. This says the 2060 is twice (1.83) times as fast as the 70
https://tpucdn.com/reviews/MSI/GeForce_RTX_2060_Gaming_Z/images/relative-performance_1920-1080.png

3. This says that then 390 is as fast (0.99) as the 970
https://tpucdn.com/reviews/ASUS/RX_470_STRIX_OC/images/perfrel_1920_1080.png

So the 2060 is about 81% faster than the 390 (1.83 x 0.99)

You can sleep better :) ... this is a proverbial "no brainer".

At the 350 dollar price point this is about as good as it gets. Its literally the only new GPU release that has beneficial price/perf compared to the last.

Does it actually overclock better though?
The R9 390 overclocks very well, at least on water it does.

Either way, no point returning the 2060 for something inferior.

Voted yes.

The only thing you should be returning it for is a 2070. The extra vram will help for a little more future proofing.
