Need some help with Sid Meier's Civilization III and Cheat Engine

Was my favorite game in my high school days... but I don't have time for marathon sessions like I did back then. Want a cheat code that will allow me to just have infinite gold so I can just have some fun. I have used Cheat Engine in past, but not for this game. I was able to isolate the gold - hit next turn next scan and I can usually get it down to two values to change, but when I change them to 99999 it doesn't work. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any advice welcome

Civilization III: Cheats - CivFanatics

Civilization III didn't come with a built-in cheat mode, unlike Civilization II. Firaxis also hasn't released any official cheat codes for Civ3. The only known cheats are those tricks that exploit some bugs in the game and player-created cheat programs such as trainers and saved game editors...
