Need some system upgrade help

Hello
I have a prebuilt asus ga15dh atm.
I am thinking about upgrading ram and cpu
Currently running
cpu: r7 3700x with amd wraith prism cooler
gpu: Asus geforce rtx 3060ti tuf oc v2 lhr - 8gb gddr6 ram (had rtx 2070s, had to buy a new gpu cause of some issues)
rams: some shitty micron 3200 mhz 22cl (2x8gb) with no DOCP( it shows only disabled, no enable option)
Psu: 750w 80 plus gold ( had some 500w psu had to upgrade it cause of old gpu not working, thought psu was the problem)
From asus support i got this kind of message: "The reason why the DOCP will not enable is because the motherboard is not capable of doing that. And I must advise you that our units are not design for the CPU to be removed from it." Does this basically mean i have to change mobo as well?

tbh i regret buying a prebuilt computer...


So yeah, i need your help guys atm. I am mainly playing New World (where we have 50vs50 wars) and its a cpu heavy game and i know my rams are very bad. I am not a pc expert so i am asking for some help : D

Open CPUz to the mainboard tab & post a screenshot so we can see what mobo they sold you. I can't imagine Asus would put such a crappy mobo into one of their pre-built's that it can't run DDR4-3200.

I agree that a nice DDR4-3600 CL16 RAM kit & a 5800X (or 5800X3D) would be a couple of really nice updates to your system.

During the pandemic I recommended pre-builts a lot. At the time it was the only way to get a nice GPU without paying an insane amount of money for it.

We'll I guess the most important question is how does it currently run ? What is bad about the current performance or what issues is there currently ? (can't turn the settings up high enough ? Poor FPS ? CPU/GPU usage is too high ? Bad temps ? )

Also it depends on how much money that you have on hand. In my case I do my upgrades in segments and wait for the deals I can get doing the upgrade time that I allow when I purchase.

IMHO though you should upgrade your RAM first if you are going to make the change.
Also What kind of Hard drive you are using. If you are using a standard HD you can get a good performance increase by upgrading to a standard SATAIII SSD.

What I did with my ASUS is added a Samsung 860 500 GB for my primary (new windows 10) OS/ work programs. Another Samsung 860 for my secondary for games and kept the 1 TB HD for bulk storage.

I also upgraded the RAM to 32 GB. Then gave it to a friend. I had too many computers and that one though it ran well after the upgrades, I hated the damn thing because it was an Asus.

Well im playing a game which is very badly optimized. All my graphic settings are low/performance. I have pbo on bios. Cpu and gpu usage is not high usage. Temps are not bad either. Cpu is like around 70-75 celsius under load. On this game single core performance and 0.1% fps is important.

I have 144hz monitor with gsync on. I have only 1 ssd which is 512 gb. I dont remember the exact model rn not at home. So, my single core performance would increase if i buy another ssd and upgrade rams woth low latency? Rn i have 22 cas ones so i think they are really bad meanwhile there is 14-16 ones available in market? In this game i play, i would never go under 30 fps but nowadays im struggling with around 25 fps. Its very badly optimized cpu intensive game.

The thing is in that game i record my vods and when i check my vods i can see that 5 months ago i had much better fps and nowadays its just so bad. I just want to know if i can incrase the performance of game, mostly cpu and rams.

Yes, I was at that site. I downloaded the manual & it was for the PC, not the motherboard.

The model is usually printed between the PCIe slots. This random Asus B450 picture (I grabbed from the internet) shows the model printed just above the PCIe 16x slot, but if it is not there look between the PCIe 1x slots too.

your "losing" a lot with lower than possible ram speed, as its affecting Fabric speed, so basically everything.

while temps are ok, cooling the cpu better, which lets it boost higher/longer.
turn pbo to auto, no manual settings. the cpu will still boost to what cooling/power allows.
running pbo will be something i would do after everything else is "tweaked".
dont use docp, always enter stuff like ram speed/fabric clocks manually.

they probably have min specs for power/vrm limits on the board, so they dont want ppl to put something in the board cant really run.
besides that a 5800 would really need proper cooling with high end air or simple LC.

if you can find them, corsair/patriot 2x8gb 3600C14 kits, as well as all 4000C16 stick or better, are b-die or equivalent (other brand),
so they usually do even better than spec, if you want to mess with tweaking a bit, they usually do C16 at 1.35, if you cant/dont want to run them at 1.45v.

Wow. That is so bad of Asus to make a one-off motherboard for a pre-built, then not provide BIOS & driver updates for it. I'm not positive, but I don't think you will be able to install a 5000 series CPU with that BIOS version.

It has no VRM heatsinks. Would putting a 5800X3D or 5800X be a potential concern? (assuming it's supported/possible)

the Brand stating its not possible (to upgrade), AND no vrm HS on the board, so why some insist on a cpu upgrade (to that board), is not clear to me.


buy 3600 ram if you plan on getting another AM4 cpu, upgrade the board next, and if needed, then go with a 5800/3D.
otherwise, save the money, go am5 based cpu/mb and ddr5 in a few month, and build "another" pc out out (most) of the existing parts (family/friends),
as i doubt you will recover enough, selling it as is.

Honestly I would buy anything until you workout the total cost of replacing the motherboard and ram at the minimum. A ram upgrade alone might not do much, best to pool the money with a good combo to get the most bang for the buck.

Looks like a Micro ATX size will work but if the existing case supports ATX that would increase your options.
Since you would want to replace motherboard and ram you might compare multiple options AMD vs. Intel. and DDR4 vs DDR5 where applicable.

You need to decide if you want to spend your money on a side-grade (AM4 parts) or live with your current system for now and do an upgrade to AM5 DDR5 or Intel DDR5 later.

IMHO buying an AM4 motherboard, new DDR4 RAM and a 5000 series CPU would not be the best way to spend your money considering your current system specs.
