i got this benq dvd writer that is ide. i wanna connect it to a ssta3 using the adapter on the photo.

what it's the proper way to do it? i tried connecting the molex directly from the power suply and not giving power to the adapter trough its cable that it came with on picture but didn't work.

i don't wanna break anything how should i?

Can you connect sata power to the device? That other power connector is for FDD not ODD, wouldn't be surprised if you can't power it with that cable unless you IDE to sata is connected to a FDD.

Edit:
You may need to plug in molex to the drive itself not to the adapter. SATA drive to IDE converters are not the same as IDE drive to SATA converters.

How you have it is right but you also need to connect the molex power on the drive itself.
These adapters are also hit and miss so don't be surprised if the system doesn't detect the drive at all.
 
A molex to the drive and another to the adapter.
 
I'll take another look

it worked however my computer case needs to be standing up for the dvd drive to open up as right now is laying flat and it doesn't even open with no dvd inside. I might need to buy a new blu ray instead. it opens when the drive is horizontal
