I just bought this game and i enjoy it alot but I have some concerns about it's performance. I was expecting to be able to max out this game no problem. Right now i have AA disabled and shadows set to medium at 1680x1050 resolution and I still get some serious lag in some area's (west harbour and the bandit camp are the two I have come to so far that lag alot). I thought this was weird because my friend who has a similar system but with a single 9800gtx+ has no problem running the game at the same settings. The only difference i noticed is that he is running version 1.0 while i have the latest patch so is the issue in the updates? Any help would be appreciated.

p.s. I have catalyst 9.7 and i tried bumping down to 9.4 when i started getting issues to no avail.

its a horribly optimized game even years after its release, I remember back when I had a 8800GT, a really really overclocked 8800GT, it ran like crap on that too, I still couldn't max it when I got my old 9800GTX, but I had a old cpu then, ummm,

I don't know what to tell ya

its a really picky game, if you don't have the right hardware config it'll run like crap

I'm not sure either. Maybe try taking your cards out of crossfie to see if that is causing it fits for some reason with the 4xxx series. I've not played it in awhile, but I seem to remeber it playing well on my pair of X1950XTX's.

I'm at Catalyst 9.5 with my HD 4870 @1920x1080. 16x AF, 4x AA, almost all settings on high (some on medium) and I get good fps (30-50 fps). I've got all the expansions as well (MoTB, SoZ), but I'm only at v 1.22

I tried taking it out of crossfire and that did the trick, with one 4850 i can put everything on max except for shadows which i have on medium and i runs 40-60 fps in all areas. Seems like a really strange problem but as long as I can play it I don't really care. Thanks for all the replies.

To dispel any myths, while not the worst optimized game I have seen in the past few years, it is pretty bad. Such can be said of all DnD based games of their time. It seems to stem from an inherent design quirk of trying their best to actually base it on DnD's paper system instead of altering it to fit in the "game world".

I will say one thing. The first Expansion, "Mask of the Betrayer" actually fixed a lot of issues and improved the optimization of the game for some reason. My old system ran much smoother at higher settings after I installed MotB.

yea when i had my 8800GT with the same setup in my specs, i could only run it all maxed, no aa. i can't even remember if i had AF or if it has af as its been so long. but in the starting town i remember my fps being like 21-30. It is weird, some of the clothing graphics are pretty good but in general the performance for the visuals is un called for imo. Great game though

Why not? They use to say there would never be a NWN2 and they are working on the 3rd expansion for it now.

NWN 3 will come out once they gauge how the DnD community will react the changes in the system.

No NWN 3!! the nwn series are going to be replced by Dragon Age series:ohwell: maybe if some one will bought the rights for nwn from BioWare but that is not very likely.

well i'd hope that if they do come out with a nwn3 it'd use a different engine for one. If they make this dragon age game u speak of i hope it has the same feel as nwn does.

Well BioWares control the game production rights. the Rights to DnD itself is Wizards of the Coast. They may decide to simply switch to a different developer. But I don't know the full legal details of that mess, so don't quote me on it.

tips for NWN2

1.use a no-cd crack, securom really has a perf hit on some systems, even when the systems got plenty of power.

2. update directx9 runtimes to latist avalable.

3. update video and audio drivers to latist avalable.

4. try turning some settings down like shadows, the game uses software shadows and they SUCK ASS, huge perf hit and dont look good(this is true for most games infact.)

I will try and remmber other tips i had tomarow, I gotta pack up to head home soon, There are alot of things u can tweak, may want to google for nwn2 tweak guides :)

in some cases the tweaks make the game look better(like removing the crappy software shadows!!)

main one from me is GET A NO CD PATCHED EXE FILE, securom is horrible.

On a side not, Bioware never owned the rights to nwn, they made nwn and all other DnD based games under contract/license from Atari(infogramers) who own the rights to anything set in the DnD universe, and atari are dead set on using securom on EVERYTHING......like it stops piracy.....pffft

I had to crack the damn game every time they updated it or expanded it(bought them all) because nwn2 was buggy as shit THANKS TO THE DRM, 99% of nwn2's bad rep/rap and problems are due to securom!!!

little help for you
http://ipv6.google.com/search?clien...pyworld+nwn2&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

if that wont work for you

http://www.google.com/search?client...pyworld+nwn2&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Bioware developed the games, Atari Published it, Wizards of the Coast owns the legal rights.

Atari is gone by the way, Hasbro bought out most of the company. Midway bought the electronic game publication section of Atari and renamed it Midway West or some shit.

Anyway, the DnD universe is now owned, and has been for some time now, by Wizards of the Coast.

Funny as posted above, it runs GREAT on 1950's and 7900/7950s.

No were near as good as the original ppl. NWN2 is no were near as good as NWN1 no were near. buggiest game i've had in 3+ years. And it don't even support a SB audigy..

They still not fixed the sound issue that a few are having with it. Mine turned up after installing SoZ were the people your speaking to are at very low volume.

They blame my PC and how it's setup but it's funny that NWN2 and the 1st x pac work perfect.

Till thats fixed i'll never buy another and really wish that BIO would get back on it lol..

To the OP, NWN2 requires a hell load of shaders to be able max it out. Sad to hear that CF don't seem to work right :(.

Atari doesn't exist any more. Their name is on the product because Atari Electronics split off into its own company. It is just a logo because people recognize it, like Kodak, Magnavox, and Philips. These companies are all gone, but the name is valuable so the new companies keep using it.

Wizards of the Coast controls DnD's story, system, and fate. Hasdro Toys will decide if a NWN3 should be a product or not.

yes, I know the original atari hasn't excised for many many years, the last owner was "infogramers" who bought the atari name to hide from their HORRIBLE reputation in the computer game market.

WotC owns the rights to the dnd universe, BUT they sold the rights to make videogames, this means whoever bought atari(infogramers) owns the rights to make dnd based videogames.

its sad, WotC should have kept their license and only done per situation licenses, it would have been FAR BETTER.

oh well, not like it matters, I liked nwn1 and 2, and hope that if another one comes out it dosnt suck ass.

Benchmark Scores I don't benchmark.
I hereby declare all this licensing, company buy outs, Atari being sold off in sections like a cake for the failures of the Electron engine in NWN2.

Hopefully someone will step up, as the man said WotC, and take charge and build NWN3 from scratch.
