so its my fathers birthday in a month and some odd amount of days and i think i have the right present :D. So he enjoys computers, he has this old socket 370 w/ 1.4ghz p-3 and 512mb of pc-100 ram, and he just cant afford to upgrade. His computer need's are rather limited. He plays starcraft once and awhile and would need something to reliably surf the internet and be fast So i have put together a list of parts im looking to stay within $250 (which is honestly pushing it in terms of trying to save up enough in time). But if i can manage it ill get it for him

So first of all i have a micro atx case i can use, he has a 120gb hard drive, and dvd burner/reader, and a monitor.

this is what i wanna buy

Total: $190.64

My only concerns are that his current hard drive and dvd rom are both IDE and the motherboard only has 1 ide controller. Should i maybe buy a sata hdd?

Also i have a athlon 64 3200 laying around i might be able to use. I played CS:S with it fine...

So any idea's...suggestions.....donations maybe ;) j/p..

Not too bad! You may want a better mobo if possible, get the x2 3600 brisbane core (way better), and a cheap stick of ddr2 800 shouldn't be too hard to find.

Why a better mobo? maybe a suggestion about a "better" one. I knew brisbane were better i must not of been paying attention lol. And why would i need to bother going to ddr2-800

you already have a working A64 3200+? If it's compatable with the motherboard (Am2), why not use it? With the money saved, you could get more memory (is he going to use XP?). there are some Am2 motherboards I've seen with 2IDE. But I think they were usually ATX size.
