new computer new error

Windows doesn't give that type of error message.

You've got malware. Run, download and run malwarebytes if you can.

I agree. Thats a VERY odd message.

it should...

hmm now it does, im going into safe mode doing spyware/virus scan with malwarebytes n avast.....then HD test on external...did a quick scan just now on external drive and all came up green...weird

i guess malware could be possible...but unlikely

edit-- is it possible that the external gets to hot and then it says that??? idk...its a lacie 250gb have had it for a while no issues....ill have more info later after scans

You might want to try combofix, but if you don't know what you're doing avoid it like the plague.

I agree. Thats a VERY odd message.

ive seen it before its not fake only windows 7 dose it if smart is enabled

Secondly i know first hand HDD tune only checks for bad sectors, there could be many other things wrong with the drive so it passing HDD tune don't mean its ok

These are tried and true programs that ive used on hundreds of customers drives.
Samsungs utility

Or better yet use Hirens Boot CD there's a bunch of good HDD tools

I did a quick google and found it could possibly be related to small issues being seen in SMART.
Some people have ran Vista on the same drive and not had one issue.
So from what I have read Batou is likely to be on the right track.

EDIT:-
Since I am at work I just had a customer come in with some malware which sounds very similar to what you are having but on a XP machine.
It is indeed telling him he has hard drive errors, but htis one is very obvious as it comes up with the lame pop up window.
It is called FullScan

The culprit will be located in the users temp folder under a numeric exe if it is the same one but behaves a bit different in Win 7

Lol...I removed 5 of the files manually they are all named the same.
Rebooted and the message from Bad sectors or whatever in the system tray has now changed to.....The hard drive is missing!

:D

hmmm well i did all malware scans and virus with avast and malwarebytes and windows defender...finished it off with CCleaner....scanned both hard drivers internal and external with the HD tune pro....NOTHING came up...i guess ill wait untill it happens again....any other program to use for spyware??

The only tools I really use are Malwarebytes, CCleaner and whatever antivirus is on the PC wen it come to getting rid of infections.
Have you tried disabling SMART monitoring in BIOS?

im almost 100% certain this has nothing to do with malware / virus at all, if you google it the results seem very legit.

well it hasn't came up again....just d/k what it could be running great...

happen twice ...........anyone know anyway i can fix this????????EEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR

Yeah this would be my next step . Full format and os install .

i just build this computer not even month ago....needs a reformat??? no way that's possible

Just because somthings new doesnt guarantee reliability, If you have an external drive plugged in or any other drive, other than windows C drive unplug them, And run the system for a while to see if the error shows.
If it turns out that its your new drive with windows installed RMA it it.

If it runs fine then its obviously another drive thats the problem, or usb HD caddy, memory stick etc.

+1 for reformat and re-install. Definitely the easiest and most reliable method. Just back up anything important to USB and maybe make a ghost and put it on a dvd or separate partition/drive.

Well you can reformat or keep having the error , The choice is up to you . I would reformat the external drive as well . But that is just me . then if this didn't work ( I still get the same error ) I would buy all new drives and that is the way I would do it .

Sure final option.
Reformat :/

As the above have mentioned, just because you have had the machine for 1 month it does not mean you will have hassle free performance.

There are moments where all of us come across either bad hardware or some form of malware/rootkit which screws up the OS big time.

Recently I have been coming across new strains of malware...nasty ones so people have been releasing start of this year.

Last one I have come across makes the machine bluescreen when using combofix.
The kid decided to pwn everyone by using some sort of Starcraft II bot online he downloaded only to find the person he got it off pwned him.

Good f'ing job I say!
Little turd....

Yeah I just installed malwarebytes And found out that I had 1 infection ! I was wondering why I had 2 BSOD in the last 2 days , Check my error messages in my OS and lone behold it said this is caused by malware ! It checked out so far to be true . If it keeps up I will reformat and reinstall ! I may also put in a free AV and do a scan !
But you should Reformat and reinstall .

From what I can tell the malware strains are targeting the Vista/Win7 based OSes at the moment.
As expected, there are going to be loopholes which can be exploited pretty easily still with these operating systems.

I didn't catch if you mentioned what brand of hard drive is misbehaving, (*if* it's misbehaving), but it would seem to me that the most straightforward thing to do is run the appropriate manufacturer's diagnostic software for the drive in question.

If it passes, your problem likely lies elsewhere.
If it doesn't, start backing up whatever is important to you from that drive.
If it is under warranty, RMA it and have it replaced.
If it isn't, you're out of luck.

Question: Have you checked your cable(s)?

If you choose to do so, use caution, as I've seen people snap the "fingers" on the hard disk side of the SATA data cable socket more than once. It sort of voids the warranty. And, ruins the drive...

Yes I also agree windows dont show this kind of message. Its kind of virus I think .Thanks

its a real windows 7 error message, it just means that the HDD is giving out SMART errors, the OS has realised this and is warning the user to backup immediately.

I was about to say the same -- I have a 750GB Samsung Spinpoint F1 which has just recently started giving me SMART errors (such as the one mentioned in W7) - theres nothing you can do but just back up all your stuff and RMA the drive - Ive tried to get my F1 RMA'd but Samsungs part ID check RMA/Support part of the website is just so woefully slow its like their under constant DOS attack or something.

so is this a windows error or not??? im passed 30 day warrenty i think...i dont have anything to back up software on this drive my external is at a buddys.....so if its a virus how do i remove? if it is the drive why is the errors not showing up in any scans??? just doesnt make sense...i have an error/spyware but any scan i do doesnt show anything up...wow
