new computer new error

so is this a windows error or not??? im passed 30 day warrenty i think...i dont have anything to back up software on this drive my external is at a buddys.....so if its a virus how do i remove? if it is the drive why is the errors not showing up in any scans??? just doesnt make sense...i have an error/spyware but any scan i do doesnt show anything up...wow

Its a hard drive error - and windows is telling you its going to die - so back your stuff up - spyware/malware scans wont help as this isnt the issue. depends how bad the damage is - my F1 will give me warning during POST about a SMART error

no fix?? just return??

Unless you have a masters or a degree in electronics, and computer science and some programming - No fix - there is nothing 'user servicable' on a harddrive

SMART errors can come up when nothings wrong with the drives. it rarely happens on a new HDD however.

You need to return that HDD and get a new one.

If your HDD is in IDE mode, you can use HDTune Pro to view the SMART information, you know. What you should really do is run Samsung's bootable CD and do a full diagnostic scan on the drive to get the real answer about what is happening.

Samsung HUTIL (Batou1986 has the right idea)

I don't know why you guys are all suggesting a reformat tbh. It doesn't get rid of SMART errors stored in the HDD's firmware.

1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk drive you want to check.
2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.
3. In Error-checking, click Check Now.

then tell us what happens

If it is a smart Error, then get it returned. HDDs have more than 30 days warranty, most are 3 years i think.

If you want to check if its a smart error then get a little utility called speed fan. open it up, and there is a tab in there that will check the various stuff for you.

sometimes you can get away with swapping circuit boards with the same model HDDs, but yea its best to just RMA

If you're past the 30days from w/e store you bought it from you'll have to contact the manufacturer and RMA with them most likely

it may not be the data part of the disk (the part its scaning) but other parts of it having trouble... read/write heads not working right, arm not moving right, rpms not the right speed, who knows. probably why the scans on the drive (where data is stored) are fine.

that doesnt work with modern hard drives (or at least, not for long)

the positioning of the heads is so fine now, that they have to individually calibrate each drives firmware to get the positioning right - and of course, swapping the PCB's can cause issues with that.

I've tried this and never been successful :/
All I get is the click click click.:banghead:

Although I still try it as last resort because I still want to get one which does work with a different logic board.
