Hey guys been using an Acer 24'' 1080p 5ms monitor for my gaming. I am looking to upgrade to a new gaming monitor. Should I go for a 1440p monitor or should I get another 24'' monitor but a better 120Hz ASUS model for gaming? I think maybe a 27'' 1440p monitor is the way to go for me. Especially with my setup.

I have a GTX 690, i5 3570K OC to 4.3GHz, 16GB DDR3, etc.

I would go the 27". it is a great size. you thinking IPS?

I am thinking PLS instead of IPS, I heard PLS panel is slightly better.

Hmmm. I have heard good and bad about PLS.
I personally would stick with IPS as the technology has been out for a while and has matured, but hey! If you want to go PLS and can afford a 27" one, go for it and tell us what its like after you have given it a run!! :rockout:

I took a chance on a $300 QNIX 2710 27" 1440p PLS panel direct from South Korea, and it has turned out great.

The perfect pixel guarantee was kind of vague, but it has no such issues.

Should note that it only has one DVI input, and I got a table mounted arm to replace the mostly nonfunctional stand.

Only thing is I need a new GPU. My HD 6950 isn't quite up to the task in newer games. Patiently waiting new cards and price drops.

You should have no problems with your GTX 690.

That monitor looks beautiful and is priced well but it is still 1080p and IPS. But yeah, I just really want a fast response time and if possible PLS, which I hear is just a better quality and hopefully 1440p.

Fair enough!! Enjoy and please give us some feedback on what you think. I would be interested to hear your thoughts!

I don't like that site it is only showing me the 1080p monitors, not 1440p.

That's a lot of monitors to look at for gaming @ 27'' for 1440p. Could we narrow that list down to 2 or 3 maybe. My budget is around $400, also response time being >6ms would be nice or around that much. I have a GTX 690, 16GB ddr3 memory, i5 3570K OC to 4.3GHz.

The ASUS 27'' 2560x1440p looks to be a great choice, anything maybe a hundred bucks or so less for an alternative, I don't like the HP one. That ASUS one is very nice but a bit expensive.

Well I'd say my Samsung S27A850 was the best 700$ investment I've made. I can't believe how much I've been missing with crappy TN panels. I can't tell the difference in latency over 2ms panels, colors are splendid, viewing angle are great, and I love the resolution. I know its over your budget and some people here got nice Korean 1440p monitors, *I* wouldn't take the risk. It's hard to say what I'm missing over a 120hz panel. Are you strictly gaming or will you enjoy the high res outside of the game?

I have wanted one of these for a fair while..

It's a great screen. You have to disable the fast mode as it ghosts, but on the regular setting it's superb.
