My 2500k + Asus mobo did this from the day I built it. It would freeze anywhere from once a week to once a month. Never froze while gaming. Only while at the desktop. No blue screen or visible crash -- the mouse froze on the screen / keyboard leds unresponsive, and that was that. Possibly a bad cpu that crashed at low MHz / voltage, or bad motherboard supply voltage? Bad psu ripple / noise? Pretty sure it's not software related. It's like the cpu just goes missing.

Eventually I built my current 4790k system with all new parts (save ssd / bluray / case), which is fine so far.

the problem is not the processor or motherboard, and I tried other motherboard and 3 processors (phenom 840, 965, i5 3570, fx 8320) and the problem persists, I think it's energy problem :shadedshu:
