To my knowledge all Bios, drivers, etc. are as up to date as they can be. I first noticed I was getting terrible FPS when trying to max out the free Ghostrunner demo. Hovering around 60-70 FPS on 1440p, Raytracing on, everything pretty much maxed. Given my rig, that seems quite low.

I ran the Heaven Benchmark 4 (1440p, Ultra, Fullscreen) and noticed that my FPS scores weren't as good as similar or worse setups around the internet. My Task Manager also said my GPU immediately jumps to 100% usage while my CPU usage stays super low (around 7%), and my Memory stays flat at around 19%. I can't tell if that's bad or not. Should my CPU/Memory be taking more of the burden? Could that be holding my system back?

This is my first build in like 12 years, so I'm still learning a lot. I really appreciate any advice that comes my way!

Can you post a picture of the score? Maybe the image quality+aa is turned all the way up in the drivers?

60-70fps? Is your monitor only 60-75hz with turned vsync on in games? And it is perfectly fine in multicore cpu's to see low usage in games and almost 100% load on videocard. When it is opposite, then you have a cpu bottleneck and couldn't load gpu on max. So no worries on that. Cpu tends to load when you start a game, during actual gameplay you rarely will see it to load more.

Thanks for responding! I'm currently at work, but I'll definitely post some score pictures when I'm back home. Glad to hear that low CPU usage isn't anything to worry about. Definitely still curious why FPS seems low for the power of my rig.

The monitor I'm on is a G9 Odyssey. I have G-Sync turned on, running 240 Hz, and ultrawide 1440p. The only game I've tested so far is the Ghostrunner Demo since it was free and has a raytracing option that I wanted to test out. I'll have more time this weekend to download some other games and see if I'm getting similar FPS.

Make sure you get Epic they give you 1 free Game every Friday. Some highlights have been Kingdom Come Deliverance and GTA 5. I also believe the Witcher is free on GOG right now as well.

After some quick searches, looks like you're not the only one getting poor performance after enabling RT in Ghostrunner: https://www.reddit.com/r/GhostRunner/comments/jjsy0m
Sounds like the game's RT implementation isn't the best.

The Free Games Thread is a good one to watch as well.

Awesome! I already joined Epic and GOG and will definitely be on the look out for free games! Thanks!

Here are the two separate benchmarks I've run. Both were a day apart, same settings. 1440p, Ultra, Full screen, etc.

I can't seem to find a good standard, but I've looked up others online. For instance, this person's video. They're running the same settings but on a 2080 super and a 3900x, and yet their FPS score was higher. I know the 2080 super is overclocked, but I assumed the 3080 should be smoking it.

Am I missing something? Maybe I'm overthinking it, but like I said, I'm still very fresh to this and want to make sure I'm getting the most performance for the money I spent. Thanks again everyone for taking the time to answer!

Your test results seem to indicate 8xAA while I don't see any note about AA on his in the video. Not sure if that means he ran different settings or if Heaven has changed their results page since back in March when he posted that video. Definitely weird that your scores are less than his. I imagine your FPS might take a hit if you were testing in ultrawide, but you both tested at 2560x1440. Is your RAM inserted in the proper slots for a dual channel configuration according to your motherboard manual (usually slots 2 and 4)?

Yep, I followed my motherboard channels for the most optimal inserts for ram, gpu, m.2, and so forth. I do have an ultrawide monitor, but Heaven only has the option for 2560x1440 as the highest resolution in 16:9. I'll have more time this weekend to download and test some actual games. Hopefully that will give me some more data to test with.
