New way to cool 4850...

So, i bought a FEV (or whatever it is called) heatsink for 4850/4870 from Zalman using one of best internet magasines in Latvia (they never had let me down). It arrived together with my two fans, Asus Triton-88 (roflcopter) and multi-flash card reader...
I was surprised, when on package was only written 4870... And yes, it was 1.5 cm longer than needed to fit on my Asus EAH HD 4850. So i used imagination, Zalman thermal grease, and... and cotton thread with needle... Have a look...

Sorry for teh camera. Yes, it actually holds well in place, there are like 1-2 mm till mobo, and one 1 mm from sata port.

Creative stuff, really. Cotton wire doesn't let power through or something? Does it have any other advantages?

Yes, it doesnt (static power does though, but that is not the problem). And surface of graphic card doesnt have any open contacts anyway. It would take 150 grades of Celsius to become destroyed. Advantages, there are no other advantages than having a passive cooling block which wouldnt fit on otherwise.

ok now the image disappear. I really want to see it again cuz I have the same problem. I bought a AC s1 r2 for my 4870 and the vrm heatsink wont fit...

edit: lol now i can see it. interesting stuff. will try with my card if have time.

Yea, my digital camera needs to be in direct sunlight to have normal quality, flashlight is kinda sucking, makes everything too bright. I wonder how it even can capture cooler wings in motion (except the LED one).

Nice work, can I ask how well it cools the VRMs? I have exactly the same card, no VRM cooling, and need to know how well something simple as that heatsink you have works so that I can voltmod.

Awsome mod man, lol i hate how few coolers are available for my non reference 4870. i wanna watercool it but theres barely any blocks for it. Lol i do love this.
