Hi,
It's the end of the year and I decided to treat myself with a new workstation
I think I'm pretty set on my specs (besides the Gpu) but I'd like advice from pros since I'm by no means a professional and would probably miss a thing or two.
I mostly use the station for dev/programming/IT - VMs, some video processing, audio processing, etc. So my main consideration was high CPU+high memory.
I did encounter a myriad of options when it came to GPUs - I'm not a gamer but since I do have a budget for a decent GPU (~400-500$) I'd like to know which one to choose/which manufacturer is recommended for that price range - I couldn't reach a conclusion by myself .
The estimated life of the GPU should be as long as possible . So, although I don't need a monster, if it's a consideration between a 400$ card or even 550$ which will still be legitimate/relevant in 5 years, it's worth the extra $$ for me.
Just for reference - my current GPU is a GeForce GTX 650 which I bought some 7 years ago to be able to play StartCraft II ♂.
As I'm not a gamer I don't believe I'll need to OC the machine to an extreme but I'd still like to reserve the right .
In terms of CPU I'm set but all the other parts are subject to change, especially if other manufacturers are recommended/less problem prone
Here are (my current) Specs:
1. Cpu -Intel i9-9900
2. Mobo - Asrock Z390 Pro4
3. Mem - HyperX Fury 32GB 3000MHz DDR4 CL15 - 2 units (64GB)
4. Psu - I think some Antec 750w but I didn't really research this one.
5. Disk - Have, Don't need.
6. Gpu - This is the main question - I don't really need an amazing card for gaming but a decent one in the range of 400$-500$ , my main use for it would probably be AI training , but if a nice game comes along I'd like to be able to play on decent graphics - nothing extreme... I was looking at ASUS DUAL RTX 2060 SUPER EVO Advanced which looks ok but I really don't understand enough.
7. Casing - Have, Don't need.
8. Cooling - ? - CPU is on max load for short durations during video encoding/Dev builds, but I'd still like something reasonable.
A note about GPU - The purchase has to be by the end of 2020. Since Nvidia just announced their new line of GPUs, would it be wise to postpone the GPU purchase till December in case they lower the costs for the existing midrange GPUs ?
If this post does not follow the guidelines, I'm sorry - I tried to follow the pinned threads but it's a bit convoluted..
In another note - Is there a feature on TPU where you can input the budget for a GPU and it gives you some fitting recommendations ? I couldn't find...
Thanks !
