Windows Vista is available on Newegg. And with an exception to the $150 OEM copy of Windows Vista Business (x86), all of the OEM Vista's come in packs of three.
  • A three pack of 32-bit Home Basic will cost $280, which is roughly $93 a copy, making it $3 a copy more expensive than the $90 OEM copy of Windows XP Home.
  • A three pack of 64-bit Home Premium will cost $350. This translates to nearly $117 per copy, making it $7 more expensive per copy than the $110 OEM copy of Windows XP Media Center.
  • A three pack of 32-bit Business will cost $450. That turns into $150 a copy, which is $10 more expensive than a single OEM copy of Windows XP Professional.
  • A three pack of 32-bit Ultimate will cost $600, making it $200 a copy for an OEM buyer.
All of the figures posted do not include Newegg's $5 shipping fee, which is not charged for a copy of Windows XP. It should also be noted that every version of Vista except for Home Premium is only for a 32 bit computer, and Home Premium is only available for a 64 bit computer.

what about the 32-bit version of home premium?

Lol, I'm happier here in the UK... we can buy the individual copies and 32 bit home premuim already :p

Atlhough, that said, it works out way more expensive - three copies of home premium 64-bit would cost at least $415 US. :(

Why cant they sell 32bit and 64bit together!

Like if i bought Home Premium it should be 32-64bit compatible...thats total BULLSHIZZ!!!!!!!!!

Bc its all about money

Probably because they don't have it yet...keep in mind Vista doesn't technically ship for 8 more days.

$3, $7, and $10 more than the version of XP they are replacing certainly isn't nearly as bad as everyone seems to think it was going to be. If you talk to some it would sound like Vista was going to cost more than the PC it was going to be running on.

I actually think that this price is very fair, and I'm strongly considering buying one of the OEM versions. I might upgrade to DX10 in a year or so, but until then I'll dual boot and see how I get on - the performance improve once the tweaks are out. A few months ago I was thinking it was just an overpriced XP revision, but now I think that it looks ok.

They are selling single packs now. Vista Business OEM is $150

I think buying MCE 2005 with the free Vista Home Premium upgrade is the best deal right now.

Why anyone would actually want Vista is beyond me unless you're bored and want to beta test software for MICROSUCKS for free.

None the less, I'd be very careful with NewEgg that you aren't getting gray market software. Most people should know that there is no support of OEM software except from the OEM who supplies it with a system. Since you ain't purchasing this software from an OEM as part of a PC purchase there is virtually zero support.

nop, you pay to test beta software, vista isn't free ;)

lol all 3 my computers all 64bit may actually get one of these (after the kinks are gone and VISTA is fixed)

I just want the one pack ;)

Who the hell gets support for an OS? http://www.justfuckinggoogleit.com/

I am running vista on my laptop and xp on my gaming rig... Vista is slow, but it is growing on me, really. I can run all my programs I need, games are actually guys, running almost as fast as windows. Also, aero = weird and total crap...

Alright boys and girls I need some advice. I'm a gamer and upgrade a lot. Which version will allow me unlimited amounts of configuration changes?

Any version that's non-oem. Retail or Upgrade licenses will work over and over, upgrade discs will probably require you to insert a legit XP cd first to "upgrade" from (at least thats how XP upgraded from windows 98 etc.)

Vista Home Premium has pretty much what everyone needs.

Newegg now has the single packs up too, all of them are exactly $10 more than the versions they are meant to replace.

XP Home=$89
Vista Home Basic=$99

XP MCE=$109
Vista Home Premium=$119

XP Pro=$139
Vista Business=$149

And to think people actually said Ultimate edition would cost $600, yet you can get it for $200 OEM, I know that is what I will be running.

can some one explain the licence

ultra oem is 200 and how many computers can that be installed i heard its one, can some one confirm

ultra retail is 600 and how many computers can that be install on ?

Retail will allow you to maintain your copy of Vista even though you changed a HD, video card, MD, etc or altered settings in the bios. OEM can be a lot more restrictive (rumor is that it's restrictiver then XP). If you make any hardware changes your copy of Vista may no longer be valid. There will probably be no number to call unlike XP OEM. But we will have to wait and see.

so what cant u change with retail

Retail Version:
You get free support from Microsoft
You get a pretty box and manual
You can install it on more than one computer, but it can only be installed on one computer at a time

OEM Version:
You don't get free support from Microsoft
You don't get a pretty box and manual
You can only install it on one computer, you can't transfer it to another computer if you get a new computer

Microsoft says that upgrading the motherboard counts as a new computer, and that is it. So in theory you can upgrade everything but your motherboard and still use your original OEM copy of Vista. If the motherboard fails you can replace it with the same model and the OEM license will still be valid to use on that computer, if the same motherboard has been discontinued you can replace it with a similar model that maintains the same processor socket and close to the same basic feature set.
