Overpriced, underpowered junk. Mostly bought by casual gamers who don't know any better..

I have both PS4 and Switch in house.

Switch is indeed underpowered and has very annoyingly bad quality controllers.

Its appeal is:
1) Nintendo's exclusives
2) Impressive portability. And I don't mean gaming on the go, but the easiness of taking that thing with you, during trips.

That being said, 55 million actually doesn't sound that impressive, given PS4's 108 million. Xbox is at 46 million, and this gen MS performed terribly.

Bottom line: It takes a nearly mankind Extinction for a present day console be as relevant as those at their company's golden age (NES-SNES)

That kinda defines the last console gen for MS and Sony rather than Nintendo if you ask me. Its the whole reason they had to release heavily spec upgraded versions of it rather quickly, and initial sales were pretty weak.

Nintendo is not even part of that rat race, for their own, good reasons and that is why they sell. I'd rather say the usual console crowd jumping from one PS or Xbox to the next is the true casual here. They want their yearly FiFA and CoD, mindlessly droning from one release to the next. And most of it is also available on PC, go figure.

So, no. If you buy a Nintendo console you know EXACTLY what you're looking for and you know Nintendo has it. Their game portfolio is unique, the device itself is unique.

Exactly. This.

Switch is the only console with real value for what it offers, if is just for the Nintendo exclusives. Sony and MS are less and less valuable just for the fact everything is being ported to PC. And Nintendo games play in another league of their own with their games, you know what you are exactly getting into.

Switch was the first current gen console I bought in 21 years since the Dreamcast and Nintendo deserves every penny for it. It's a blast.

Stating the obvious that your comment completely ignores the PS4 and Xbox One launched 8 years ago and the Switch is 3 years and 2 month since its launch. And the Pro Controller is pretty damn comfortable. The only configuration that can be a pain to hold over time is a single Joycon. A good grip cover will fix that.

Good for them! I don't use my switch often, but it is a nice piece of gear. I like picking up and putting things down.

The line is blurred between PC and Xbox/PlayStation especially now since they are more or less underpowered computers with less options. Most of their games end up on PC anyway. And to be honest, all modern games feel the same to me on those consoles and PC - smash a single button to win (final fantasy series now) or just games feeling like they are rehashed of each other in looks, gameplay etc (last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, That zombie game with your character being a biker, Uncharted series, walking simulator known as death stranding, etc).

The only system I can get behind is the Nintendo switch cause it knows what it is - a game console not trying to be a poor man's computer. It simply plays games and does the added bonus of being a portable game console at same time as being able to connect it to tv and enjoy from couch. Games on it are fun and they aren't relying on graphics as their selling point, but actual good gameplay. Some series are really running its course (Pokemon) but games like animal Crossing is good or Octopath Traveler. And some other games for PS like Ni No Kuni is on switch too. I have a PS4 but it's collecting dust.

I bought a Switch a couple of weeks ago mainly for Ring Fit Adventure (haven't been able to go to my gym since Feb). Combined it's probably the best purchase I've made this year!

PS4 and Xbox One launched 8 year
PS4 was launched in November 2013. It will be 7 years old November this year, but fair enough.

Pro Controller is pretty damn comfortable.
What does "comfortable" have to do with "terrible quality"?
I had joycons sent in for warranty repairs (drifting). 6 month later, hola, it's drifting again.

PS
Tone down the console warrior aspect of it, I couldn't care less about any of the three companies.

I can say the same my friend about the console hate. I have all of three consoles and gaming pcs as well, but my Switch experience and others in my circle has been far different. No joycon drift or issues with quality with my launch system. I hope your experiences with the system improves.

This misleading because the switch pulls double duty as a console AND handheld I'm pretty sure previous versions of their handheld eclipse console sales also.

I have 4 pairs of them and have never had that problem, nor any other problems.

It's a wear and tear issue. They just need to be taken apart and contacts cleaned due to dust working it's way into them. I had this problem way back when Playstation was my religion, whenever the controller started drifting a screwdriver, cotton swap and 20 min later I had a perfectly fine controller.

Perhaps it was just a certain manufacturing run of them.

I am not sure if you are quoting sales number from launch till now. but you do need to factor in the fact that the PS4 has been around longer than the Switch considering it got launched in 2013/ early 2014. On the other hand, Switch got released in early 2017. Taking this point into account, I don't think the PS4 outperformed the Switch by double.
