Computer won't start.

Well i got it running. Did not wanted to post here,i just struggled with the issue for 2 days, eventually it started.I reinstalled the windows. Why ? Cuz i'm a noob. When something goes bad. You delete all ,and resintall the windows. Joking. :) Maybe not all the times. But i never had a problem like this, and it kinda scared me.

This night, my cousin has the same problem. Pretty much same symptoms.
Press the power button, black screen. No signal.

What tests i did with mine:
I figured,it had to be a graphics card, display (monitor or TV), PSU problem.
Turns out it's not a display problem. My monitor and TV are fine.
Noticed the HDD was not making the same sound, when spinning at full throttle. Was more like an idle spin, or no spin at all. Kicked the hdd out. But the problem is,there's no image. It's all black. Even without hdd, i had to see something.
I messed around with different cables of the psu. Hard to imagine how my corsair psu that barely has 60% usage ever...can go bad.

The graphics card, maybe ? Not really. Almost impossible . I tried the HDMI port and the VGA . But after the problem from my computer solved itself, not everything is ok. If the graphics card goes bad it goes bad forever.
What really bugs me, is that we get no display. Is as if there is no graphics card,or nothing at receiving end.

I get no image. Image is related to graphics card. If the card is ok, then there's a problem with the PCI Express slot ? Or the power that is delivered to the PCI slot ? So can it be a PSu problem ,since the electricity goes through the psu ?

If there is no CPU, the computer doesn't start and you get a beep. So it's not the cpu .

How i fix my problem. CMOS reset . Power cycle. And it worked. So i reseted my CMOS. So what....i don't see how that can be a thing. It worked for me....kinda...i remember doing 2 times. Worked the second time.
Tonight did the same thing to my cousins computer. No result.
You think a BIOS update would help ? Aha. There is no bios update, we have old computers. Trust me i checked.
Let's face it. It has nothing to do with bios. Black screen. No image. Some kind of text must appear . But we get none.

Help.....any ideas ?

what are the specs of pc
did you tried his vga in your pc.

Is this a home built PC or a store bought? Motherboard might be shorted make sure all the standoffs are on and the board is properly installed in the case. I had the same issue and I had to replace the motherboard because it shorted against the case.

My PC is fine and dandy now. Even tho i have a big feeling the problem will come back one day. Hes pc is the one that no longer starts. As for his specs.....am, asrock motherboard amd 2 core (something) 2gb ram ddr2, a ati low end card,a no brand psu. All cheap stuff.

I could take my psu and put it in his pc. See what happens. But i am not sure my psu is 100% now, since i have experience same problems .

If my motherboard had shorten against the case it wouldn't be working right now. Whatever the problem was,it's gone now.
But you do make a point. In some lucky cases , you can shorten but not fry. A cable...something might be giving negative mass to it. ...Man,this is electronics stuff. I have little experience.
These are home made computers. We opened them hundreds of times and put them back together again.

It happen to me before. I did a test bench without the case,on my bed. The computer did not start. Of course it didn't. All the pins on the back where making mass with each other cuz of the cloth on the bed.

Yeah I had the exact same issue but my board shorted at first and then it eventually fried causing my to have to replace it. :/

take his video card and test it in your pc if it work. if it is ok try with your psu in his pc.

you should do bench test on paper or carton. this way you are sure you havenst shortened something by mistake

Noticed something.
I hear a throttle noise on and off. Imagine a fan noise that goes up to 800RPM and then comes back to almost full stop, and then goes up again and goes down again. Over and over in a matter of seconds. This is how the video card fan does. WHat i do,i take the card out and put it back in..repeat the steps a few times, eventually it runs.

The CX series of PSU'S arent exactly the best in my experience. You might want to order a 'proper' power supply to try out and see if that fixes you issues

I think we can call this thread closed. At least for now. My cousin sold his computer for parts. Now he's looking to buy another one.
As for me. I will keep going with this one.
Read in the past lots of reviews on the CX series ,and yes most of them are mediocre, especially when people were using powerful graphics cards . For all i know it might be the motherboard, it might be the psu.
As far as the psu....the way i see things. It's a corsair . Therefor it's a lamborghini. It's like telling me to get another lambo, cuz mine isn't working well anymore.
Things do break down. Even lambos. For the time being i'm winging it .

If it's video signal issues i remember i had a gtx550ti that needed a wiggle while plugged on the pci-e slot after a week or two(the computer shut off ofc lol), my cousin now owns the card and he has to wiggle the card every so often too. I've come to the conclusion it may be the card warping a bit since it might be too old if wiggling it doesn't help try cleaning the pci-e slots with a cloth/ruler/alcohol combo see if there's dust in there.

And remember that PSUs can be Lamborghinis and what not but they can go bad too and that may not be the cause but it might be helping it. :p
