Hi! I have this little problem after updating my bios. Don't know why but my pc dosn't start after the upgrade. I know that i can flash back the bios to the first version and it will work again, since i did it a couple of days ago. Problem is that with the old bios, i think it was build 0225 or 0255, i get the BSoD very often with only google chrome open. I thought i could try and update the bios, version 2002, to see if it helps but now i got this problem instead. The mobo im using is ASUS RoG Crosshair V Formula-Z with AMD FX-8350 8core, 2x8GB Patriot 1600 DDR3 and Sapphire Radeon HD7970 Ghz edt Vapor-X 3GB GDDR5. Hopefully you guys can help me!

Hi

Welcome to TPU

Flash the backup bios image back [need to be able to see what's what]

What the motherboard Revision? are using a flash drive!
Have tried an older version of bios image first [0401 or 0704] do these also cause blank screen

Try: Disabling hardware acceleration in Google Chrome

What was BSOD error code? [this will help other members of the TPU community assist further
.

Hi! Thanks for the reply! I didn't read the error code when the BSoD was there the first time, the second time, about 2 minutes since i restarted the pc, went too fast for me so i couldn't read anything. And when i got into windows, both first and second time, i didn't get any error code or window at all. I just remembered that i didn't try to clear CMOS after the update so i will try that first thing in the morning (it's 2 a.m. here in sweden right now). But is there any known problem with the Crosshair V Formula-Z and its bios? Becouse every time i disconnect/connect something from the mobo i get the same problem, no post. Happened when i installed a new SSD Hdd and later when i installed the Sapphire graphicscard.

Hi

" is there any known problem" nothing I am aware of, I would double check the memory make sure it is fully compatible with the system board and is seated well

[maybe worth while setting the bios to system defaults before flashing]

Note: however bios image 0225 is well over due to be updated

I had a different bios until i did a flash a couple of days ago. I opened up the pc and took everything out to remove the dust and when i put it all together again the post didnt load so i had to flash it. Everything worked great up untill then. Never got a BSoD for a year, maybe more. Maybe if i find out what bios version i had before the flash it will solve the problem?

Took everything out...memory? Cpu?

If so, double, Triple check the CPU is seated properly and do the same for each memory stick.

Then CMOS, then boot. Then, get back to us with results. I am doubting the BIOS is the culprit.

chrome causing a BSOD has nothing todo with the bios version disable flash hardware acceleration
and quit screwing around with the bios before you permabrick the machine bios flashing is a LAST resort not something you do because somebody said todo it

I have to agree with OneMoar on this...

However, you need to be using, at least, BIOS Revision 0806 to properly support that FX-8350.
Since, you need to flash it to that one or better... might as well use the latest, as, they have all been mostly to improve system stability.

Crosshair V Formula-Z BIOS 2002 3/19/2014

If it does not post with the new BIOS (not boot into windows); then, you have other problems, likely related to hardware. Fix that first.
Move to the OS next... then worry about other software problems.

I had similar issues with a non Z that ended up being memory timings too tight and also on mine the Go mem button needed configuring correctly , was a pain in the ass but essentially try looser memory timings.

im more than comfortable flashing a bios or replacing firmware. but even i wont just do on a whimm..
any way the usuall process would be set bios cfg to fail safe defaults. (maybe then go and set usb keyboard support to on though, and dissable stupid logo screen)
when that confirms to post and work on, flash the bios.
most bios flashes wont change your settings, some will revert to defaults though, so its always a good idea to write down what your obscure settings you proably forgot you changed were before you flash..

however i really doubt your bsod is due to to a bios issue.
much more likely a dll file on your pc.

Thanks for all the answers guys! I now got the pc back up and running. I'll try it out and see if i still get the BSoD with chrome. What i did was that i flashed the BIOS to version 1701, now the BIOS screen looks just like it did before ( black background with the RoG logo in the middle, with bios 0225 it was an all red screen with a bigger logo ). So the problem is solved, for now at least. Should i try and update the bios with the software i got with the mobo or should i just go after "if it's not broken, don't touch it"?

leave the bios alone its not the problem:
disable flash hardware acceleration by right clicking any flash video and untic enabled hardware acceleration
if the problem persists I recommend making sure you are running the latest amd drivers for your card
Trifluoroethane has a flash point of like 70C and that NB is how hot again ? :P

If it works ,what is there to fix :) good going but let us know if it's fixed fully

well, now i haven't got the BSoD for some time, with both chrome and different games up at the same time so that one is fixed (yaaay). But now, i can't connect to the internet with the latest drivers from intel. It takes a couple of minutes before i can access the net, but i have to roll back the drivers first. the driver is from 2012 so i thought that i maybe should update it to the newest version, but my pc dosn't think so. and when i try to install the drivers from the mobo CD i get some wierd pop-up that says that a file the setup is trying to access is on the webb, and when i find the .msi file that is needed from the cd it says that it dosn't have access to it.. don't know what it is or why it is like that.. and when i try to update the BIOS with the ASUS update tool, it can't even connect to the server..

try this

  1. Click Start
  2. Right-click "Computer" and select "Manage".
  3. Expand "Services and Applications"
  4. Click "Services".
  5. Find the ##Id_String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B879762## name in the list of services
  6. Double-click this to open up a Window.
  7. Under the General Tab next to Startup Type Select Disabled from the drop down.
  8. Now test and see if you still have connectivity issues.

Hi

"It takes a couple of minutes before i can access the net"
Double check the system time and date are correctly set in the motherboard bios [if this is wrong it can mess with system time stamps]

Note: is good practice to reinstall motherboard chipset drivers after updating motherboard bios

go here fill in full system specs manufacturers names, model numbers and opperating system - [this will help the TPU community to give better advice]

Asus drivers and apps downloads here

Final repport now guys! Everything works the way it should after the 1701 BIOS update. I can access the net as soon as my PC starts, no BSoD ( so far ) and everything runs smoothly! Thanks for all the help!
