well its the 1201n

If it's the ASus Eee PC 1201n, no. It only supports 4GB of RAM.
It may not take the 4GB stick either (if it only supports 2 x 2GB)

whatever happened to it supporting 8GB. did asus give up on the bios update to fix that

Some sites including Asus' say 2 or 3GB of RAM (total) depending on model and country. (shrug)

Reading over at the asus forums, it seems people have installed and use 8 gigs in them, but you will need to run a 64 bit OS that can use it.

Also, Crucial seems to think it can run 8 gigs, they sell it. Call crucial and ask: Toll-free for US and Canada 800-336-8915.
You have to do a re-boot and make sure the bios recognizes it.

Crucial reply

Ok called crucial they said the motherboard is perfectly capable of handling 8GB but the memory controller in the CPU may not be able to being the atom processor. So saying that I should least be able to put the one 4GB stick in or will the memory controller limit each slot to only 2GB per stick.
