I am pretty sure you are mistaking. Memio is a part of the GPU itself, the memory controller, and not on the rear part of the card. These are voltage regulators, and not memio. Ask W1zzard, thats what he told me!

oh i agree... but threes no guarantee the sensor is where it should be on these non reference cards.

i cooled that sink with a fan, memIO dropped. put fan to the front of card only cooling GPU area, and memIO raised again.

i wont be using it for anything just normal browsing so should be ok i hope

also now its running at 55c now ive lowered memory to 450mhz.

do u reakon this has been to blame for my artficating in windows and driver crashing, sorta been getting speckled green pixels over the screen lines and problems when running blu rays to

It's possible since playing BR content will still put a slight load on the GPU and will cause the card to change power states. Still get a fan on it I say.

I would say the memio sensor is on-chip, and cant be moved.

I think the cooler you are using is either unevenly seated(re-seat it with new thermal paste) or the base of the cooler is uneven(try lapping or buying a new one)

+1, the gold heatsink is covering the voltage regulators (VDDC) if i remember correctly.

MEMIO is on-die.

let me put it another way.

If sensor A is on the CPU
and sensor B is on the memory chips

then the software (BIOS, firmware, etc) is what labels them A and B. When the readings get read, there is no guarantee that they are labelled correctly.


I too would have agreed with w1zzard, and you... except that my direct testing with a powercolor 4870 PCS, proved otherwise.

Ok, i understand what you are trying to say. But it might just have been the extra weight of the fan that you attached to the back of the cooler, that made the difference in pressure on the GPU die itself. Or I might be wrong, but fact is he has to cool the card differently or it will die sooner or later.

nah the fan was floating loose in my hand before i tied it in. even if the sensor part is wrong, that part of the card gets damned hot - mine was in the 90's (IR thermometer) when passive, so its certainly a hot part.

70mm

its an accelero S1 heatsink, with a 70mm fan from an AMD 939 cooler.

its too tall. it will hit the stock heatsink.


if you want to replace the smaller one, you'll need to replace the larger one as well.
