Dear GPU manufactures and Game developers,

Ever get the feeling people are just not spending money keeping up with the latest hardware? Have you spent MILLIONS developing a game to only end up selling it for 5 bucks the next quarter? Well I have a solution for you!

MAKE A NEW X-WING or TIE FIGHTER!

Simple. Make it. Make it use high end hardware only and allow the modding community to go nuts. I will go F#$KING BANKRUPT making sure I can run the game maxed out and buying all the official DLC. You don't even have to create a new engine! Just use Unreal or Frostbye. Spin off a few watered down console versions like the old school days, sit back and watch the money flow.

Here is my plan.
1. Make a X-WING or TIE FIGHTER! (Personally I'm all about the TIE Fighters)
2. Put it in the new trailer for the Star Wars movie. (CGI video announcement is enough)
3. Setup pre-orders on Steam the next day. No hype. No word prior. Just let it show up.
4. Profit.

Or you could keep on your crappy plan of a dying market......Which I know you will do. Meh. I did the Christian thing and tried to help. Take care yo!

If anything will kill SW games (or movies for that matter) going forward, it will be Disney, not developers or anyone else. Disney doesn't have enough creative or technical expertise with games to even call such shots, but if they get too greedy on time lines and budgets, that could kill them. Content is already looking downsized, perhaps in anticipation of potential cost and time overruns.

There seems to be a fair amount of anticipation for Battlefront even without space battles though, so I'm not sure the whole franchise would die over lack of a new X-Wing or Tie Fighter. Seems like putting the cart before the horse. Most would simply lobby for space battles first, then if successful enough, maybe they could add new aircraft later.

Stop it. Just stop. Battlefront cannot be in anyway shape or form in the same league as X-Wing or Tie Fighter series. They are different animals altogether. A dedicated space sim would make Disney MILLIONS of profit. Especially if they debuted it like I suggested.

In a perfect world, yes, but my point is, what makes you think they're going to make the leap to a full on space sim, when they aren't even intent on putting any space battles, sim or not, in Battlefront?

That's the point of the thread. I'm giving them a way to make money. LOTS of money. Also the fact there are no space battles in Battlefront could HELP even more! Lots of neckbeards would love to pew pew in a Tie Fighters instead of pew pewing in a BF reskin.

No space battles in Battlefront is a doubled edged sword. On the one hand, it could cause a barrage of complaints, maybe even a global petition, for a full on space game.

On the other, the spiff new graphics and not having to master difficult space battles might just turn the franchise into the galactic equivalent of the new TR style, where they sell tons of copies to people new to the series that were always just looking for a space shooter/saber game.

I fear it's the latter my friend, especially after seeing the acceptance of the new TR, and other games that have strayed from their roots. Once they take a bite of big profits, they care a lot less about quality of content, and prefer the accepted mediocrity. Esp with Disney at the helm, which gets back to my initial point.

What I'm saying is it comes down to a simple matter of risk/reward, and it looks like Disney is preferring the simpler, less risky eye candy route. That said, it still could happen if they make lots off Battlefront, but the voices wanting space battles/sim are going to have to be loud at that point to drown out those praising the simper formula.

With this kind of thing, it never comes down to who's the more loyal customer, or more knowledgeable or adept in the SW games, it's always a matter of numbers. It's going to come down to how many want space shooters, vs how many want space sims.

That will fail in the long run. Space sim would make them way more in the long run. I bet if Disney started a GoFundMe account with the title New Tie Fighter it would smoke Star Citizen in funds and could be 1/16 the depth and development.

I recently purchased the Tie Figher and X-Wing series from GOG.com, gonna have to fire them up again because of you Mailman! :toast:

Time to rekindle my early-mid 90's space sim enjoyment. :D

THIS!!!

Hell all they have to do is REMAKE one of them in a new engine and I bet it would go down as game of the year.

Well, IMO they'd be stupid to not at least do a serious fan survey on it, if not start up a fan funding account, just to see if it reaches the goal. The fan fund thing is a serious commitment though, you really have to have a lot of project ideas ready before you go taking any money.

All they have to do is remake one of the games. That's it. I bet they would blow away their goal. Are you a space sim fan? If Disney right now said we will remake Tie Fighter in the frostbye engine right now if you dontate 5 dollars. Would you?

I loved that series... I'd buy it, again, with updated graphics and engine!
Where is my flight stick?

Favs in order:
1. Mech series
2. X-Wing and Tie-Fighter series
3. Company of Heroes
4. War Hammer
5. Crysis

EDIT: I gotta add "Wing Commander" series

I haven't played one of the X-Wings or Tie Fighters in years. Can you play them without a flight stick? I see them on Steam.

No, I'm not, and I'll tell you why. Most of them that I tried when I first got into gaming don't support mouse worth a damn, and I really am not interested in that kind of game enough to invest in a flight stick, and I detest gamepads.

It does put it in perspective more when you get comments from everyone, vs just space sim fans though. I DID however enjoy the more casual space battles that can be done adequately well with mouse using the right settings though, and have a fairly good mouse with on the fly DPI now, so it would be less of a pain to adapt to such segments. But no, I would not really be into a full on space sim type game. Just segments within that are mouse supported well and arcadish, vs full sim.

It's a dimension that's necessary in such games though, and I feel will be sorely missed in Battlefront. It would be nice if they could have space battles and let you choose how many you do and how difficult the missions you take on, and also scale the flying difficulty like Slightly Mad did with driver assists in Project CARS, but I'm not expecting that anytime soon.

It says required, you can use mapping software to get around that though, especially if you use a controller.

BAH! I need to get one anyway for Star Citizen. Not looking forward to that kinda investment. Last time I looked a decent one was over 150 bucks.

Arcade style would be 100% ok with me. However I would like to see a "realistic mode" like War Thunder.

Wow, that came out of left field. I was assuming with all the sim talk, you wanted a full on sim. I guess we are in agreement for the most part. Yeah, and a proper controller is a key talking point, and I think a big part of the
development decision. It's not just shooter vs space preferences, a lot of players don't want to have to shell out for a spendy stick they won't even use on most games.

That's why I think just having space segments that are arcade and work well with mouse is the best way to go, esp if you have the choice to skip them or choose how difficult a mission you take.

Well seeing how ive never played either one of the games, I cannot really comment to much on it. however a properly done space simulator purely built in the star wars universe a 100% go for me. Star Citizens got nothing on a properly done star wars space sim! And it needs to be sim worthy, not arcade with sim name plastered on it.

Oh mailman, if only.

Sometime later, care to fire up and run a few rounds on X-Wing Vs. TIE?

I'll fire up UJR and play with my TM Warthog, LOL

We should totally get a few of us lined up! I have my CH Fighter Stick and Pro Throttle combo...still fine tuning the controls. Thinking I might go back to the good ol' KB + Stick of yore and play it the way it was designed. :D

If I didn't have a cert exam to study for I'd be doing this right after work! :rockout:

Maybe I'll pop a thread up over at GN after work.

Well, I didn't get around to making that thread.
Make sure to buy them from GOG, the Steam versions can't use all of the spiffy new textures that people have been making throughout the years.
I've put in several hours in the last few months, and it's still fun as hell.

For the XWAUCP, at least, they do now.

Furthermore, if anyone has a HOTAS setup or any other combination of devices they want to work with older games that only support a single stick (and either don't have native software or combined brands etc), UJR works like a dream to combine them into a single virutal DirectInput device. (Requires vJoy, and AFAIK, must remain running while the game is.)
