Notebooks Outsell Desktops in 2007

Consumer notebook computers managed to outsell their desktop counterparts for the first time in 2007, thanks largely to the introduction of low cost notebooks such as ASUS' Eee PC and strong advertising campaigns for Intel's Centrino technology. Overall market figures, including corporate purchases, saw notebook sales rise 21% to 31.6 million units, whilst desktop sales fell 4% to 35 million units. Notebook sales are expected to account for 66% of the overall market and 71% of the consumer market by 2011. ASUS' Eee PC can be had for just $299, whilst reasonably equipped Celeron-M and Pentium notebooks can be found at some retailers for between $399 and $499, both of which have driven this surge in sales.

Do I read this right? Notebooks outsell desktops in 2007, yet they only sell 31.6 mill compared to 35 mill.... Am I missing something?

Consumer sales, yes. Those are total figures though - DailyTech didn't post the actual consumer figures, and you have to pay to read DailyTech's source. I'll clarify that a bit though.

I have a laptop, but I prefer to use my desktop PC if I am home. Laptops are nice, but very limited and kind of boring in some ways because I love to tinker with the hardware in my systems. Sooo, I am in the same boat... I could not do without my various desktops.

I like my laptop for work, it makes life easier when I need to remote in and fix something or got to another site.
As far as a rig to tinker with, play with, and modify. I'll stick with the room and ease of use of my tower. Not to mention the power advantage.

i'd buy a laptop over a regular build anyday considering i'm a student who goes to college.

yeah definitly with me dont want 2 have to lug a case keyboard and monitor to me mates or lans much easier to just lug me lappy regardless if its not as powerful.
