I think that it's pretty ridiculous that these new series cards don't support the new DirectX 11.2.

I'm not overly certain that this would make a difference to my gaming life.

Microsoft are just generally being assholes about their new OS and Console:

I blame M$ and their retarded schemes, not nvidia.

All in all, I dont think anybody will care.

More like it's pretty ridiculous Microsoft keep spamming DirectX versions video card manufactures cannot keep up with.

Care why may i ask ? as lets face it when do you think you going to see a DX11.2 game LMAO ?

Yup, only real version that will possibly effect gamers is version 12 and that might not happen.

All in all, M$ are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The PC is one of the best gaming platforms out there, Unfortunately for M$, they also have the console market to tend to with their gaming consoles and since more people have consoles then anything close to being a mid-range gaming PC, M$ obviously has to keep its distance with the PC platform and go bang the drum for their consoles.

but you are right.... On one hand they are trying to show PC gamers that they care buy trying to bring new features to the table then in the other they arent even paying attention to what they are doing with the PC platform meaning any progress made quickly gets forgotten and the project is mothballed.

For M$ to promote PC gaming would actually hurt sales.

LOL the 700 series came out before there was any talk about 11.2.

I don't know if you noticed but it's kind of difficult to redesign hardware after you've already sold it.

Add in the fact 11.2 is extremely minor is terms of changes

It doesn't really mean too much

And have you noticed there is not a single game that's 11.1. So Wtf is the point in having hardware that supports something that's is virtually never used in applications that hardware is built for.

Not to mention DX11.2 is going to be Win8.1 Exclusive, so since it won't be available for Win7 users no game developer will use it.

If I play $200 + for a video card, I want it to support everything. With that being said, I will care.

They don't support printing money either, but since no game will use DX11.2 or the printing money feature, there is no reason to care.

Where is your source for this (out of curiosity).

And does the Red camp support these features...?

NVidia is working hard on its GL api, it supports more than 50 more extentions than amd, right now with amd's codenaming and confusion with marketing, all I can imagine is amd's offices full of flying papers and paper air planes going from cubical to cubical.

Nope. According to AMD's website the 8000 series is DX11.1. It seems nothing on the market actually supports DX11.2, which isn't surprising since the API hasn't even officially been released...

Is this a serious concern? I mean by the time you'll play games written for DX11.2 or greater you'll be probably looking at two generational upgrades if not more.

welcome to the real world, where your $500 (or higher) purchase is outdated the next week.

that's not surprising at all, the 8000 series will use slightly modified southern islands architecture, and the R series (aka 9000 series) may support it. for example 9500M series will be R5-M200

Xbox One will support 11.2, thus many developers are going to support 11.2.

Or maybe Nvidia jumped the gun.

AMD hasn't even confirmed the next generation of desktop GPUs will be the 8000 series.

In the end, Ravenas, it's not appropriate to get annoyed that an unreleased standard isn't supported by current cards. How can it possibly be supported? Makes no sense. Let it be officially released, then expect to see it in your cards.

Windows 8.1 is right around the corner. I can be annoyed by a "new generation" of GPUs not supporting current standards, when they probably knew about DX 11.2 long before any of us did.

^^^
It's like Corning presenting Gorilla Glass 4 today and pretending it to be into the SGS4.

What happens on the console market has little impact on the PC market, even in PC games that are ports of console games. The PS4 will run OpenGL, and from the looks of things the PS4 will be the console to have, yet I doubt we'll see a massive shift in the PC market towards OpenGL games. Even though it would make since as it would allow for easy ports to Linux and Mac, which at this point would open a much larger market than the Win8.1 market that DX11.2 games will cater to. DX11.2 being Win8.1 exclusive basically guarantees that no developer will use it in the PC world. Win8 has a market share lower than OSX! Everyone is still using Win7, so the PC standard for a good long while will be DX11, maybe DX11.1.

Or maybe Nvidia jumped the gun.

Yeah, they jumped the gun by release a product that was produced 8 months ago that doesn't support an API that isn't even officially released yet, and won't be for another 4-5 months. Oh, and when it is released, it will only be available to a small percentage of users and there likely won't be any software that uses it. Yeah, nVidia really jumped the gun, that's for sure.

The 8000 series has been released, though currently OEM only, it is just as much of a "next generation" of desktop GPUs as the nVidia 700 series, and they don't support DX11.2. Even their next generation Richland APUs don't support DX11.2.

Windows 8.1 has no official release yet, but everyone is putting it in late Autumn, thats 4-5 months away. 4-5 months is not right around the corner in the computer world. And nVidia is planning to have Maxwell out not to long after that. So chances are we'll have the 800 series of nVidia cards out before we have a single piece of software that supports DX11.2.

If the Xbox One is using all AMD hardware and none of AMD hardware has 11.2 support currently. I have a hard time believing that the Xbox One will have 11.2 support.
