NVIDIA Aims For 3 Teraflops With Next Generation Graphics Processor

Nordic Hardware reports that NVIDIA's next generation GeForce 9800 will be aiming for speeds of 3 teraflops, three times the speed of ATI's R680. The R680 is planned on having two RV670 chips side by side on a single PCB and be able to output around only 1 teraflop. Both NVIDIA and ATI's next generation graphics cards are slated for launch in the Spring of 2008.

i think Intel has a big surprise in store for both Nvidia and AMD. 2008 should be an interesting year for the discrete end of the vga market.

Remember the R600... we were like OMG ITS AMAZING. Now it seems it is "ok" so time will tell, but it is just another stunt.

humm maybe they wanna pull what c2d did to amd.. get a jump ahead of the game.. I dont see why we would need all this power right away.. there could be a couple card releases before they hit 3tflops.. but this 3tflops is music to my ears.

With the use of the 9800 moniker, nVidia will be sure to remember how ATI's 9800 wiped the floor with the GeForce FX line harhar

ATI put up some good competition with their X1K series against the 7 series. I hope this will be true as well, 3 TFLOPs would be awesome

ATI and Nvidia do seem to be pretty neck and neck. I do have a really hard time in believing that they're going to hit 3 terraflops though. I just wish they would hurry up and add more software support for folding when it comes to the new gpu's.

First its 1 Teraflops and now 3 TF. Doesn´t sound right to me. I mean they are using G80 architechture on this thing, just don´t see that kinda performance increase possible. We will see.

btw about the folding, yeah that would be awesome, if only Nvidia would invest some effort into it. I understanded adding up folding support is quite easy on behalf of 3D card manufacturers.
