So following on from my comments in the 'NvApp doesn't require login' thread, I have tested the following versions of the app, 10.0.0.499, 10.0.0.505. and found the following bunch iof issues most of which are unacceptable -

Program Settings/Global settings still require an internet connection to work:
  • The following services and app request access -
    • Majority of functions missing unless these are granted internet access!
      • C:\program files\nvidia corporation\nvidia app\cef\nvidia app.exe
      • C:\program files\nvidia corporation\nvcontainer\nvcontainer.exe
    • Why do either of the following require inetrnet access at all?
      • C:\program files\nvidia corporation\nvidia app\cef\nvidia overlay.exe
      • C:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\nvmdig.inf_amd64_92b25561841a09dd\display.nvcontainer\nvdisplay.container.exe
  • Program Settings/Global settings are STILL missing the vast majority of settings compared to the NvCp (see attached).
Other settings:
  • Library tab/section on home screen wont show your locally installed games with-out an internet connection.
  • Feedback survey button STILL broken, I click on it, wait 10 seconds or so and get the error "There was an error while loading the feedback survey. Please try again later."
About section:
  • 'Required data' tick-box still greyed out, no option to disable - WHAT data/telemetry is being sent back to nVidia?
  • Privacy section now has 'Config, Perf and Usage enabled by default, ALL options I think were disabled by default in v.499
  • Early Access section has opt-in enabled by default, same comment as above.
Other behaviour:
  • NvApp still prompts me to install a display driver, despite the fact I have unticked the notification box. That and I already have the latest version installed so WHY is it prompting me at all..?
  • When the NvApp prompts me to install the latest driver, there is no option to cancel the pop-up, the rest of the app is unusable unless I acquiesce to what the pop-up wants.
  • NvApp pushes a 'optimise games and creative applications' pop-up, same issue as above.
  • NvApp does not ask for consent with regard to scan locations, it appears to do a scan of ALL your drive looking for the keyword 'games'

Worked for me with previous version. Haven't checked the new one.

Required data tickbox still greyed out, no option to disable - so how do we know WHAT data/telemetry its sending back to nVidia?
If it's required then no wonder you can't disable it.

Pretty sure it keeps the settings after update.
Early Access section has opt-in enabled by default, same comment as above.
It's beta version, of course early access is enabled by default.
NvApp still prompts me to install a display driver, despite the fact I have unticked the notification box. That and I already have the latest version installed so WTF is it promting me at all..?
I'm on .61 driver and only get the tray icon that shows that new driver is available.

Edit.
Opened the app:

When the NvApp prompts me to install the latest driver, there is no option to cancel the popup, app is uneasable unless I acquiesce to what the popup wants.
Works fine for me. As shown above. Must be tied to:

NvApp pushes a 'optomise games and creative applications' popup, same issue as above.
It doesn't for me. Same as above, toggle it off:

NvApp does not ask for consent with regard to scan locations, it appears to do a scan of ALL your drive looking for the keyword 'games'
You can still disable the autoscan for each location.

Yup. In order for the App to be in any way an acceptable replacement for the NVCP it needs to have ALL the settings ported over, even the more esoteric ones, and it needs to be offline for all the basic functions. Completely. This is non-negotiable. All the optimization profiles and GFE features can stay on-line if they must, but not having actual access to the 3D settings without the internet is clownish.

  • Welp I don't know why then that feedback isn't working, even when I grant all 3 of the services & app internet access. Am I understanding the function of the feedback button? its the square white icon in the top right of the window with an exclamation mark.
  • My issue is that it prompted me at all, when I told it not to. And it works fine how..? do you get an option to cancel the prompt?
  • My issue is that with ANY of the pop-up prompts there is no cancel option, on the pop-ups. And yeah I spotted the toggle button after the fact, but there should be an option on the pop-up that doesn't render the whole app unusable until you do 'something' with the pop-up.
  • And the issue is the app didn't ask for consent before setting up those scan locations, I have to remove them after the fact.

Maybe if you don't block everything by default you won't end up with broken functionality.
but not having actual access to the 3D settings without the internet is clownish.
You have access, only game settings optimizations require connection. You can still add an executable to the list:

they just need to expand the list of settings (however they also mentioned that some of the settings that were listed in control panel no longer apply).

I don't get prompted at all, I only see this when I specifically go to driver update section:

Unless you mean windows notifications which you can also toggle off.

  • Incorrect, I tested with full internet access and without.
  • Yes, and I dont agree with this, there is a number of settings I and others still use.

@Chomiq
Interesting. When I tested the app when it just released the Global Settings page literally refused to load for me without the internet. Guess they fixed at least that. Still, the amount of settings is pathetic. Where’s AA controls? AF optimizations? Even AA Gamma Correction, while a meme most of the time, can be useful in some old games. What, did they depreciate them?

No, they said they will port over more settings. Hopefully they don't end up like Microsoft and their Control Panel.

Well it took a second to send the form for me, so "incorrect" is an error on your end.

Ask Nvidia that.

it is not an "app", it is an application, and in its beta form it still gives you some features we have not had before and sorely needed.

As I said, I dont know what the issue is. I did ask if I was clicking on the right button (white square, w/excelamtion mark)..?

This is still a beta app and it seems obvious that the entirety of its functionality right now is a simple copy and paste from GeForce Experience, bugs and all. I find that it's actually quite broken in a lot of places (and it doesn't seem to work with Genshin Impact, all of the measurements go N/A after the game loads). I wouldn't be that harsh, they made it an optional that you have to download yourself for a reason. I think Nvidia will make good on their "no need for a login" promise but they will probably heavily encourage it by intensifying the GFE recipe of regular giveaways and in-game bonuses.

Fair point, but what is the chances its stays a standalone application and dosent get hidden behind the M$ store like the NvCp did? And at which point it then becomes an app. Also nVidia are the ones to blame here, as thare calling it an 'app' atm.

They can do what they like with this Nvidia app, as long as it does not replace the NvCp. But being synical, I see exactly this happening, which is why users need to feed this back to nvidia now.

It WILL replace NvCP, 100%.

If anyone has issues with the app simply use the provided feedback form or make a post about the issue on nvidia forum.

They got heavily criticized for login being required for GFE, login is a necessity for redeeming stuff but as soon as you get what you wanted you can log out, remove account.

Did you guys really think that Nvidia was not going to get your telemetry data on how you interact with their cards? They did ask nicely before, requiring you to log into GeForce Experience, but no, big uproar on that. So now they are just going to do blanket coverage thru the driver. This will give them more focused data, on what to focus on, for their gaming cards. How many are using DLSS, how many are using RTX, What games are being played and how often. and on and on and on.

I know there is a " Stop Windows from Spying on You " thread on TPU somewhere. Cant wait to see the " Stop Nvidia/AMD from spying on you " Cause I know team Red is not stupid and has probably been doing this for years now.

Telemetry engine has always been separate from GeForce Experience, and its removal one of the key features of NVCleanstall

Welp with the NvApp there are 2x instances of the display container, one for the App and the other for the driver and both are trying to access the internet. So at this point we have to hope the NvCleanstall is able to mitigate some of this nonsense.
