NVIDIA DLSS 4 Transformer

Small performance hit on my 4090 but sliding down 1 quality notch still improves the picture quality and ends up with higher FPS.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 can process 84 billion triangles per second - so I'm not sure why there is a need for upscaling. Well, obviously the games are not generating high-resolution output? They could - but, they don't?
Many modern games pushed the graphics way up and lean on DLSS to make up for it. There are titles that get sub 40FPS on a 4090. Really, there is no reason not to enable at least Quality DLSS especially now with the transformer model.

I find that a convoluted way to view things. Reviewers play the games to get a sense of what they're like viewed live, then record multiple solutions and spend time analysing the images and video side by side, looking for what is most stable in motion, what is less blurry, has less artefacts etc and so on. It's fairly straight forward to see what some get right and what they get wrong, and then articulate the differences and perhaps even rank them accordingly. Right pixels, pixels in the wrong place.. this is jibberish adjacent. None of these are perfect, there is no ground truth reference image to compare them to for the 'right place' for any given pixel to be.
20 years ago even the suspicion of playing with color quality to win benchmarks, was driving Nvidia (mostly) and ATi/AMD to apologize. Today reviewers analyze those screenshots to come to a conclusion of which is less bad. And the problem is what you say in the end of your phrase. "There is no ground truth reference image to compare them", meaning reviewers end up not with objective conclusions, but with subjective conclusions, where the less bad result is described as impressive and the somewhat worst result as garbage. And even those descriptions "less bad" "more bad", are subjective because "there is no ground truth reference image to compare them".
It's not gibberish, it's just a different perspective, a different opinion. While you might see my point of view as gibberish, I could see yours as damage control.

And if you
I believe I've noticed a consistent trend, at least if the system specs tab is to be believed... The most negative comments in this thread (testing methodology comments not withstanding) are coming from users who do not use/run/main RTX hardware and can try/are able to run DLSS CNN/Transformer for themselves.

Shocker I know right! who could have possibly predicted such an outcome
guess what someone can say about the "consistent trend, at least if the system specs tab is to be believed..." of the most positive comments about DLSS. It's also a shocker.

Pretending that 4k DLSS Q is only subjectively better than 1440p native (while performance is almost identical)....

:banghead:

I'll happily agree to disagree, I've made my rationale clear, I think I understand what you're getting at although I disagree and find it peculiar.

Makes sense, the people that can use all these technologies can see with their own eyes which gives better or worse results, and enter into discussions considerably more informed no matter how they feel, yet a trend emerges. Those who can't go hands on with it, yet want to dump on it ... well personally I'm inclined to attribute considerably less worth to those opinions.

Just read what you just wrote here. You are like those slides from Intel, AMD, or Nvidia that self congratulate themselves. Congrats.

I reread it, and don't see that at all. I stand by my rationale for informed testing and conclusions.

I wasn't expecting you to see anything wrong with your post to be honest. People who write like that, usually they don't see anything wrong with that kind of replying. Good day.

I suppose it wont come as a surprise that I feel similarly about what you wrote, and so perhaps we agree to disagree. There's nothing more to be gained here for either of us, we both said our piece.... so... peace! :lovetpu:

Have you seen the matrix? You remember the scene were Neo was dodging bullets in slo mo? Now imagine bullets are arguments and Neo is your casual fan of a specific company. That's how I feel talking about upscaling with them. No argument sticks, they are just too slippery.

I posted 2 images with DLSS vs native at same performance, one CLEARLY looks better than the other, and yet 2 pages later we are still at "reviewers crapping on amd and praising nvidia and subjectivity blabla". Like sure, whatever.

@JustBenching I feel you on that. I try be articulate and precise, use my words to explain my rationale, observations, noticed trends, and so on. I don't expect everyone to agree, and it's not personal. It should be about the topic not the person. It's a public forum though and I like to come in and make my argument when I feel I see poor ones being made, it's up to others to make up their mind and be open to changing their mind when presented with new information or ideas. I do find certain subjects here there is an echo chamber, where from the oddest of takes to straight up misinformation, those people are emboldened by the validation they get when saying these things. I'm also sure others likely feel the same but for what they'd consider the opposite of their views. All we can do is try talk it out in a civil manner I suppose.

Tested transformer preset K in No Man's Sky and Remnant 2. I'm impressed at how good the lower quality presets look. I will still run DLAA (or DSR in some older games) when I can but 4k performance and balanced look cleaner and more defined now. Probably won't be switching back.
