On Thursday, NVIDIA announced suspension of its user forums (forums.nvidia.com), responding to "suspicious" activity. In other words, NVIDIA forums has been compromised (hacked), and that the hackers have managed to steal user data such as username, password (hashed, including random salt value), e-mail address, and "About Me" profile information. NVIDIA is working to restore the forums as soon as possible, when users will be able to (forced to, rather) change their passwords. In the mean time, NVIDIA strongly recommended users with identical username/password combinations on other websites to change their passwords. Changing the email address bound to the forum account could be a good idea, too. Our refugee camp is up and running.

not the first time we've taken in refugees from downed forums

Switching from nvidia to techpowerup is a good idea too :)

Wow! Thats a real surprise to me, Nvidia is generally so proficient with their security.

Been seeing more and more of these e attacks happening

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, The hacker probably bought a Kepler and had the boost throttling issue.

That thread was growing 2 pages a day and getting nasty.

just got mail from nvidia to change password :d

Well, judging by the acumen eXhibited by the red fanbois, they certainly aren't up to the task ;)

I never really registered in such forums, the company-specific ones.

They dont even care about optimus issues.. Lol and whats funny is i tell people to buy laptops with optimus which is sad.

I bet that is Linus's finger .

They deserved that definitely. They never check the forums and they never answer user questions...

It happend because they haven't released the 660Ti :P

Same thing with AMD forums. Actually, all manufacturer forums. The nasty threads usually disappears one way or another and loudest people accidentally get banned/account deleted. :D

If such internet companies like Yahoo can't be safe from hacking why Nvidia should care?

Couldn't of happened to a nicer group of guys imo.. They gouge the consumer market every chance they get.
I have no sympathy. I never go to those forums anyway, they are a joke..

Well when i have no answers for gpu related questions i go there and ive found the same as everyone says they give out 0 Fucks and dont even reply.. I had my laptop gpu issue and posted it and left it active for over 2 months and all i got was other users replying saying they have the same issue. Even the aib of the laptop maker says its nvidias fault and they have to "remain" within nvidia spec sheet or they will get into deep shit. I feel offended and cheated buying a laptop with a nvidia gpu. BUt everything works fine on AC in besides that the 555m heat output is 98c. on full load. Besides that their desktop gpus are good imo. No company is perfect .

Agreed, none are perfect, some are just better than others..lol..

I guess the correct news would be "Nvidia forums cracked"
Nothing has happened at all i guess. Just Ati cards thrown free....

ok, but how do you know that the attacker was not on this forum?

They gouge the consumer market every chance they get.

Like every other company that produces goods or services for the consumer market you mean?

great tactic. !!!!

Meh.

A long time coming, if you ask me.
