NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series Pricing Reaches 3x MSRP in Europe

NVIDIA's latest series of RTX 30 series graphics cards continue to remain elusive more than eight months after their release thanks to a combination of global chip shortages, logistics delays, and mining demand. The pricing for the latest generation graphics cards from various European retailers has been compiled and analyzed by 3DCentre and it paints a gloomy picture for gamers. The RTX 3080 now retails for 2999€ or 317% higher than the MSRP of 719€, other RTX 30 series cards saw price increases between 107% - 204%. This trend isn't exclusive to team Green with AMD's RX 6000 series also seeing significant price increases with the average price for an RX 6800 reaching 159% of MSRP at ~1600€, while other cards in the lineup see increases between 70% - 100%. The complete price history for all the cards tracked can be found at the source below. We don't see these prices falling significantly anytime soon unless there is a large drop in mining demand or a significant production increase.

these prices mean that people are actually buying it for that price....and I can only imagine that only being miners who think they can earn that investment back....

but personally I think 700+ dollars is way too much for a videocard...heck I would say im generous/desparate if I were to pay 550....so this is all not good for my hopes that prices will become reasonable again...

Reassuringly expensive, bless. One has to be a mug to buy them at these prices. Glad I bought my 2080 SUPER last year just before this all happened. It's good enough to tide me over for a good long while.

I would never pay triple MSRP for anything. I would not even pay 25% more than MSRP.

Glad I got my 3080 and 3070 for MSRP, both recieved within a week after launch.

It's insane that GPU market just keeps getting worse and worse.

Seriously TPU? This is news to you? It's been going on since January.

It's like all tech news outlets in EU had their heads in the sand and suddenly realized that consumers are getting screwed hard in EU by stores that match scalpers in their prices.

Here's X-Kom.pl, authorized Nvidia reseller in PL:

and AMD:

Yeah that one 3090 costs almost 20,000 PLN, which is roughly €4400.

They are that much or more here in the USA and have been for a while. I've come to acceptance that it will take years for prices to get back to anything approaching normal. Meanwhile I will be chipping away at my backlog. My backlog is beyond ridiculous anyway.

Yeah 2070 is still a good card and I think DLSS will be a lifesaver for all 2000 and lower 3000 cards, considering native support in unity and unreal engine now

Never say never. I lived through 3-month siege of Vukovar, back in the 1991. I remember mum gladly exchanging her golden wedding ring for a sack of potatoes. But, I agree, never pay more than MSRP plus few percent for luxury items.

Same here, I got a 2070s just after launch and was bummed out to hear when the 3xxx series gave much more bang for buck. Well, that was before the s**t hit the fan!

why people put so much faith in a msrp price which is purely a competitive market ploy i have no idea.. having paid £1150 for 2080ti card quite a while back i knew the announce prices for the 3xxx series cards were fake and these cards would never be readily available at the announced prices.. i was correct..

the current UK ebay prices for a 3070 card is between £1200 and £1500 quid.. ebay is a pretty accurate true price discovery mechanism.. it always has been..

In my country retailers actually sell cards at higher prices than the scalpers on one of the biggest second hand market in the country. 'also comes with warranty, basically new cards'

For example a non Ti 3060 goes for around ~1350-1500$ from a well known retailer and its more like ~1000-1200$ from a scalper so I'm not even sure who is the real scalper here.:wtf: 'Those prices already include tax'

Both prices are atrocious ofc and its been like that for months now, actually more like half year at this point.

The prices are only inflated like this because of the shortage. Normally, cards are sold at approximately their MSRP.

yes but nvidia knew about all this before they came up with what i am still calling a fake msrp price.. one they knew they would never be able to supply at..

over the last few months i have acquired 8 x 3070 cards.. i paid around £1000 each for them and consider what i paid a bargain.. i dont let the fake msrp price confuse me.. i know what a real price is.. i also know what real bargain is..

i also paid £1045 for a 3080 card.. now that was a real bargain.. he he

No it's not. Ebay is full of scalpers taking advantage of the shortage. Go and visit the EVGA Store. You will see the GPUs listed at a little above MSRP but due to the shortages they are always sold out. However you can go in a waiting queue and get one at that price but it will take a long time. They aren't selling the cards at a huge loss they just can't make many due to shortages.

But out of that supposed £1500 sale the Bay will have nearly £200 off you in fees and skim 10% from the postage.

a price is only real if there is an available product behind it.. if there isnt an available product at that price that price its just pretend.. :)

shortages only exist if the price is too low for the available supply... ebay prices adjust for this.. its all very simple..

as for ebay being full of scammers.. that is rubbish.. ebay is full of people buying and selling stuff.. if i want to sell something it goes on ebay.. if i want to buy something it comes from ebay.. i never have problems and i have been using ebay for many years..

eBay is not representative at all. It's a free for all without any rational pricing point. You can see a variation of +/- 30% on the same item. It applies to most areas it accommodates.

The problem with scalping on eBay is made worse by seller fees. You need to charge 10+% above what you paid to break even. On a £1000 card, that's already £1100. Now add your profit margin. Oh, and take the warranty out while you're at it. Bargain.

But yeah, both AMD and Nvidia were royally dishonest this GPU season with their fantasy MSRP.

Today's problem is FOMO culture. Instant gratification is a cancer. Is it so hard to wait for crypto bubble to burst again and then buy desired GPU cheaply on a 2nd hand market?
This way you show middle finger to scalpers, Ngreedia, AMD, AIBs and greedy retailers. Let them suffer for their sins.

I'm in zero rush to replace a GTX 1660. The sanest thing anyone can do this year is backlog clearance (from oldest to newest) rather than fuel the absurd scalper / miner rat race.

There's the analysis of current situation. EVERYONE in supply chain is cashing on mining craze and blaming others. It's like selling shovels to miners in a gold rush.
