After a period of sales lead by AMD in the category of notebook discrete graphics, NVIDIA's sales grew in Q2 2011 by 8.9pp, taking it to 50.6%, making it the leader in the category by a slim margin. Analysts predict that this figure will only go up in the third quarter of 2011, as ASUS, MSI, and Clevo are scheduled to launch more GeForce 500M series based notebooks in the quarter. These include ASUS 17-inch G74SX and 15-inch G53SX, both which use GeForce GTX 560M; MSI's GT780 and GT683 based on GTX 570M, and Clevo's 17-inch X7200 that packs GTX 580M.

Nvidia has always been strong in the mobile graphics department, with a few hiccups on the way. Except for the ultra high end, both AMD's and Nvidia's offering has more or less the same price/perf. Now that Fermi is largely sorted, the power/perf should be fairly equal too.
 
Also, that percentage isn't going to increase because of the cards mentioned, it's going to increase because consumers are going to buy heaps of laptops using the GT520M/MX, GT525M, GT540M, etc...

I'm not saying their cards are bad, but they can be a little more expensive sometimes, for no real good reason. They also put a lot more money in marketing and advertisement, although AMD is picking up the pace as we speak, thus getting more consumer attention.
I, for one, would like to see more ION laptops.

It's good to see Nvidia is still strong, but AMD is gaining momentum quickly!
 
ION stuff was always way to expensive. AMD Fusion on the other hand isn't and it packs a greater punch.

tegra kinda pissed me off tbh... i bought a nice tegra phone, only to be told the tegra game would only tun on a tablet even though i had the gpu >.< Galaxy on Fire II looked amazing though! (not the other game i was just talking about). that and my phone's touch screen sux... defeating the purpose of gaming on it since you can't control things well.

nit picking aside... nvidia has a good lineup up mobile stuff. the only real purpose i saw for ion was in htpc desktops and the higher end laptops that switched to the ion to save power rather than the high end gpu. and a few netbooks, if it wasn't such a premium for the ion.

so long as they don't have any more issues like that with the 8600m gt then they'll be fine. though tbh that was really the system builders fault for using a pos cooler.

edit, yea when intel first released atom they were king for netbooks (since they were the only real competitor) but then amd's low power offering stepped up, and the 3200/4200 or w/e igp was far better than a gma950/945 found with most atom netbooks, and later the x3100 or w/e 3xxx series igp from intel.
 
As long as that 50% isn't for Intel, I'm satisfied. The less Intel IGPs on the market, the better. Less headaches for support people who have to tell numbnuts their PC sucks and can't run anything, and greater overall performance which helps drive more innovation and better software to take advantage of the benefit.
 
I prefer my laptop's solution, both Intel and nVidia GPUs with Optimus. Better battery life, and casual gameplay completely viable.

Nvidia knows this and is trying hard to jump into new market of tablets/mobiles. Of course, they won't abandon their high-end graphics (like FERMI) as they have invested much tech/research money into it.

Discrete will always have a place. Having the gpu on die limits build options for the oems.

I dont think that it will fade away in existence. An APU will never equate a dedicated gpu in terms of horsepower imo.. and there will always be customers that would want it.

Bah cloud computing. I don't know about others but I will never use it for my main gaming needs and I doubt it will become the future of PC gaming in any significant way*. It will not replace discreet graphics one bit IMO just like APU have not really made discrete graphics card market one bit smaller in reality. Maybe it could replace consoles, but as a PC gamer I simply enjoy using mods and customizing my games so the cloud is useless for me. And I suspect most PC gamers feel the same.

* The only thing that cloud computing will replace is the occasional gaming market like Zynga games and such IMO, when some of those people will move to the cloud to play some more elaborate games.
 
Cloud computing freaks me out and I'm not sure why. It doesn't sound safe to me.
 
Actually AMD's netbook platform is far better then intel's in terms of CPU performance

nvidia n amd offers better performance over intel
in this case nvidia gains better position than amd. most user know nvidia from their graphic card and so far its performance is kinda better than amd so less or more it helps nvidia to get more attraction
and one more since there many tablets n smartphone powered by tegra i guess it help consumers to take nvidia as their platform
