NVIDIA PhysX System Software Version 8.09.04 Released

edit: alright i cant find the page, but its a mod where a guy takes a pcie x16 card and cuts the pins off so it runs in pcie x1 (NOT pci like i thought) .. so my question , possible to mod a nvidia card to run as physx in pcie x1 ?

Don't know about x1 might be too slow. PCI-E 1x has the bandwidth of AGP 2X and that's dinosaur era. 4x is the ~same speed as AGP 8x, so that would work.

Edit: although ageia card is PCI and does fine, so the data amount moving with PhysX stuff is low then. Anyways, don't ruin the card, mod the PCI-E 1x slot! There seems to have been a PCI-E 1x Ageia PPU too http://www.pcper.com/images/reviews/345/ageia01.jpg

PCI 132 MB/s
AGP 8X 2,100 MB/s
PCI Express 1x 250 [500]* MB/s
PCI Express 4x 1000 [2000]* MB/s
PCI Express 8x 2000 [4000]* MB/s

* Note - Since PCI Express is a serial based technology, data can be sent over the bus in two directions at once.

 dont worry i wont hurt the card! its a 7600gs so its not compatible with the physx thing anyway. if i find the time i might do it, but first i need a 8/9 series, good info tho...so in theory it may just work...

Do they work with 8800GTS 320MB??

Do they work with 8800GTS 320MB??
Which games take advantage of it?

Yes and not many, UT3, GRAW 1 and 2, Warmonger....maybe one or two others I am not familiar with but apparently more to come.

Have to try these to see if performance has increased, but more important thing to know would be has the performance increased using another GPU as a dedicated PhysX card.

Works in XP and Windows 7, not in Vista at the moment. Someone has tried modifying the drivers as sound card and other stuff as well as copying Windows 7 stuff to Vista, but didn't work. Maybe Microsoft/NVIDIA can come up with a workaround.

long version of the story here:

The only thing that needs to be done, is nVidia needs to release drivers that treat the card as a co-processor, instead of a gfx card. That's exactly how the Ageia cards work. Then this would never be an issue ever again.

Wile E when they do this I will think about purchasing a secondary Nvidia card to run in tandom with my ATI HD 4870. BTW does anyone know if anyone is porting this (for lack of a better word) to work on ATI cards??? :toast:

There is a work around for the 3xxxx series but nothing will be available for the 4xxx series due to ATI's "lack of interest". I'm not sure where to find this work around however : (
It was a big deal like 4-6 months ago (??). About physx and cuda working on the 3xxx series and Nvidia (oddly) embraced it, however ATI did not : (
