NVIDIA to Focus on 2-way SLI with GeForce "Pascal"

Even with 3.0, you have data the cpu over PCI-e going to the gpu and back. When you have memory bandwidth at rates they are, even .1sec will cause stuttering and freezes that will be noticeable. All that had to go back through PCI-e chip. So if that comes in to play that bridge could prevent a lot of it, not all.
Yaya, the new SLI is better, I know, doesn't change the fact that XDMI CF is still better and DirectX12 Multiadapter too.

Something or nothing?

If you go to the main site (NA) in 1080 SLI it says

Nvidia NA said:
HELP ME CHOOSE THE RIGHT SLI BRIDGE

Supported Graphics Cards
GeForce GTX 1080

The curious part is the s. Why? 1080 is 1 card and the site is not for the 1070 so why the plurality.

Go to the Chinese website (That's where most leaks come from)

Nvidia China said:
GEFORCE GTX SLI HB BRIDGE
Compared to NVIDIA Maxwell ™ architecture, NVIDIA's new SLI bridge to the available transmission bandwidth doubled.SLI bridge which provides smooth gaming experience, Surround Gaming experience is an excellent way, and only 1070 are compatible with the GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX.

HELP ME CHOOSE THE RIGHT SLI BRIDGE

Supported Graphics Cards
These advanced bridges are designed for GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 graphics cards.

That would explain the s on the main site. I haven't checked them all. Plus we haven't heard much or any details pertaining to the 1070.

Have to wait until the NDA lifts

With TPU... If this Article was about RTG the title would be more.
"Radeon No Longer Supports C-F above 2-Way for Polaris; Kaput and Abandoned, Suspect sustaining on Previous Cards"

But here for Nvidia it's spun as a positive! Almost advertisement for a probably $50 widget, that RGT figured out how to do away with.

Funny and sad.

Great I agree NVidia
Always 2-way SLi had the best scaling 3-way SLi was a just a little better and 4-way SLi in some cases was even slower then 3-way SLi so yes great move NVidia so now for even better scaling in SLi
No worries DX12 games will take advantage if you have multiple GPUs

Because you need two 1080's to use the bridge, not one. :p

Probably, but if the china site is any indication. Its going to be a Pascal "feature" and they will be adding the cards as they are closer to launch.

It makes sense to dwindle down the SLIs given DX12 the application will be taking over that responsibility. AMD did away with the fingers and this might be Nvidias way of doing the same just slower. The more DX12 games come out it would make more sense to channel those resources into game devs partnerships like GameWorks for them to take advantage of their strengths.

All depends on the game.

No, it's a known fact... 2nd gpu is like a 90% increase.
3rd is like 50, 4th is like 30.. The gains are marginalized..

90% ?? In which game and resolution?? If you get 75% consider yourself lucky ;)

Not talking percentages, we're talking gains and yes it depends on the game. You can't have a 90% 2nd GPU and 50% on a game that doesn't support SLI. There are also some games that won't utilize the 3rd GPU except for maybe 5-10%. Some games will utilize it fully giving really good gains. It also depends on the driver version and the platform the machine is running as well. In my experience I wouldn't say the 4th card grants a benefit at all considering it usually only adds microstuttering to any game you try to use 4 cards on. I have considerate gains in some games when utilizing 3 cards, and The Division is one such game. One card at 4k gives me anywhere between 30 and 50fps depending on the scene, 2 cards up to 80, and 3 cards up to 120fps. I'd say those are considerable gains and well worth it to exterminate dips below 60 or 70fps. It's honestly up to the user to determine if it's worth it to them to gamble the worth and cost. If Pascal can't go past 2 cards it's rather moot and I'll probably be moving to the mainline desktop platform now.

No, "You're" talking gains. I'm talking about what I thought was the obvious situation, where all 4 worked as they are supposed to.

If all 4 are working as they should be.. My % was correct or at least close enough to be an decent estimate..
As for the 4th card, I agree. It's always been all but useless..lol
3rd.. Meh...

Check the quote in my original post, we were talking gains ;)

And yea, I only bring the 3rd card home from work when I need it. That's why only 2 are water cooled.

most games only show about 50-60% gain in games, 65% at most. There is only 1 game i remember that shows 90+% increase and there has been no game since that which was sniper elite 3. But going 3 way SLI on 980/1080 is kinda useless, cheaper and more effective to go with 2 ti cards which would give about same performance at cheaper price.
