Hey guys.

I'm building my brother's new PC and he is gonna have a Samsung 960 EVO m.2 SSD which is NVMe
and a 1TB 7200 Hard Drive.

How would I set up the drives? Considering I'm mixing both NVMe and AHCI?

My bro hasn't decided on the exact motherboard/cpu combo yet, either Intel's Z270 or AMD's X370

I'm so used to drives being SATA (AHCI) for both SSD + HDD combo and I've never used any NVMe drive.

What happens if he goes with NVMe SSD and a SATAIII one thats AHCI? How do I set them up then?

Thanks in advance!

not much, except..

a. Everything blows up & sends burning bits of metal and plastic into your body
b. you get locked up for attempting to kill yourself
c. your electric bill goes up by 6000 percent
d. yo momma slaps you upside da head for being so silly
e. everyone here gets to laugh at you uncontrollably for about a year or so.... :D :) :D

but seriously, I've had AHCI HDD's, SSD's AND nvme drives in all my rigs (including my current one) over the past 3 years neveranottaproblemo....

Take a look at the storage in my system. It's all over the place:

1TB 960 EVO
512GB OCZ Vector
2x 256GB Samsung 830
60gb OCZ Vertex2
750gb Samsung Spinpoint
1.5TB Western Digital GreenPower

Everything works as it should with no issues or perceptible slow down (well, only when I have to wait for my parked HDDs to spin up when I need to access them.)
