OC'ing and Getting less Performance

Hello everyone, first post here. Today I ran a couple of 3dMark05 tests and recieved some interesting results. I got a score of 4513 when I ran my video card on the stock settings. Then I overclocked it and got a lower score of 4963. I ran both tests exactly the same except for the overclocking. Here are the settings:
Stock Core: 339.21 Stock Memory: 489.86
OC Core: 445.50 OC Memory: 544.50

To make sure nothing was wrong I ran both tests twice and got the same exact results. Any Insight on this?

last time checked 4963 is higher than 4513, maybe you got them mixed up if not thats a decent gain

When overclocked what are the temps while running '05. If you have stock cooling on(what card are you running) your card then you may want to think about changing it.

Cooling

The temperature reaches about 68 degrees when its overclocked. On stock settings I believe it runs around 65 degrees under a heavy workload. I tested both for about thirty minutes before looking at the temperatures. Thanks for the concern.

I don't know too much on ATI, maybe someone with an X800gto can shed some light?.

P.S Not too sure but 65c sounds a bit high, probably nothing to worry about though.

with a single slot cooler in the 60s under load isnt far out.. the chips can go up in the nineties and still be withing specs.. there is one passive cooled no fan x800 type card out there that does run this high without some sort of case fan blowing on it..

an aftermarket cooler like the artic one will knock up to 10c of these temps and run without the whine the stock cooler gives out with the fan going fast.. i think the "less annoying whine" factor is more important than the extra cooling thow to be honest..

if u look at how the fans speeds come set at default ati dont seem to bother much till the card hits 70c.. then the fans get turned up..

you need a better PSU. something in 500 watt range by either enermax or pc power and cooling
IMO, your psu is not giving your system enough juice

also

Check to see if you are sharing irqs between your video card, sound card and lan card.

1. Click Start, right click on My Computer and select Properties.
2. Click on the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button.
3. Go to the View menu and select 'Resources by type'.
4. Expand 'Interrupt request (IRQ)'

Do to the nature of HAL it's difficult to change IRQ settings in XP. Most folk most with hyperthreading/hypertransport should be on the APCI multiprocessor. However it's very difficult to change, even in bios do to it's lack of ability to assign an irq to a specific component.
