Ahh, okay. Are they samsung b die?

Yeah I've heard that lots too, but I'm lucky and got micron, which are alright as far as I am aware.

Well, I'll find out when I get my board cause I'll be putting them at 18 22 22 22 42 3800mt and seeing wha gwon.
I have no experience with anything apart from Dell 7010, a gigabyte board that was running a I5 2400, then a E3 1240V2 and 1333mt ram and now this MSI B450m mortar max and R5 3600.
Even if I can't get 3800mt, as long as I get 3600mt and learn how to tighten up the timings, I'll still be happy.

Really?
Do tell. :D
Bones`s Memory Frequency score: 2232.8 MHz with a DDR4 SDRAM

Now - I will say this isn't for everyday use, 3800 is in fact a realistic limit for most any daily use and that's fine, I'll also make the point your board and BIOS determines alot of it as well.
The other AM4 board I have (X470 Tachi Ultimate) with the same sticks and chip can barely crack 3600 period but the board used for that entry (X570 MEG ACE) makes it all seem like different hardware in comparison.

BTW I didn't have the sticks cold when I did that, just a fan on them to get it done.
Your FCLK is 2:1 in your submission :). I stand by that 1900 MHz (DDR4-3800) is about the limit of Zen2. I've gotten 1933MHz to run, but unless you pumping 1.25v into the SoC, its not going to happen above that. Now if your just talking about max frequency, you can go DDR4-5000 and I've done in a Ryzen 3800X, but whats the point? It's almost always slower if you break away from Gear 1.

Now you're just gonna make me push things harder next time... :D

Do note I did agree that 3800 is about the max for any expected daily use but nailing Zen 3 to that as an absolute really isn't accurate. Not every piece of hardware has the same limits and there are "Freak" pieces out there too.

To make the point:
No one would have ever believed I could beat an Ln2 run on water but I've done it more than once - Check the rankings here and you'll see, there even a vid of me doing it in 1M Super PI in a livestream if you want.

Bones`s wPrime - 32m score: 23sec 46ms with a Opteron 175

@Blaeza - Yes, they are indeed B-Die sticks.

That's not on 1:1 ratio with IF though. No way it does 2232 MHz. So it's just funny overclocking but not useful, as you lose a ton of performance going from 1:1 to 1:2 ratio, which means the IF only runs on 1116 MHz in this case.

I think I'm retiring from ocing ram. Don't know why it gets me so angry but I've been on the verge of giving my monitor the fist. Not good.

See I've been asking everywhere and even with these instructions, the monitor or radiator just need to be punched! My patience is terrible and I'm petrified of everything going wrong. Maybe i need caffeine free coffee?

Okay. Yeah we all kinda started to go off on a secondary topic about FCLK and such..

Anyways first step to overclocking memory is to know what type of ICs the DRAM has. Either you can download Thaiphoon burner http://www.softnology.biz/files.html or search your memory SKU and see if you can find a the info that way.

Next step is to use that information and see what is best for your system. Im on my phone so I can't see your system info. But says its 3200 DDR4 with SK Hynix CJR ICs. Someone could recommend generic timings and voltage that will work.

Don't get hung up on what CAS, RAS and the rest do because its a real read and can be overwhelming at first to understand. Just know generally everying besides frequency- lower is better.

Start with finding out what you have to work with and we can walk you through each step.

Are you trying to adjust timing and frequency at the same time? You need to find a frequency first, then move on to timings.

I was trying to go from 3800 but I can't adjust anything without crawl on the floor with a screwdriver time. So what do you recommend? All of you who are embarking on this massive voyage, lol.

Work on getting a stable frequency then work on adjusting timing.

Are you raising your dram voltage? 3800 is not going to work on every zen2, my 3800x can but 3900 can't. Set it to 1.40 and try 3600/1800if at auto or higher timings to make it easier.

Memory overclocking is probably the most frustrating kind since it can corrupt your install so try to take it slow.

It's dead stable and is at 1.40. It was set by my "MSI Memory Try It" option. I've ran testmem5 with no errors.

You've already gained a good bit of performance then! You can move on to timings just take it slow, trial and error etc. Or you can just enjoy now.

I tried to adjust the timings from 18 22 22 22 42 and adjusting the first to 16 is instant lock up. Which means crawling on floor with screwdriver time.

you can try increasing your voltages see if that helps, but if its an instant lock up yeah it might not reach 16 without alot of voltage. maybe work the other timings first.

I don't think you'll suffer some crazy failure by increasing it to 1.45, but it'll for sure make the ram run hotter and over time maybe it'll hurt it. Its up to you though, you have to increase voltage or try other timings.

Suggest me some timings and I'll try them when the Mrs isn't about. She's telling me its a gaming pc not a benchmark pc, lol and I can see her point to be honest.

Sorry I'm no ram expert, more of a trial and error guy. Pick one and lower by one or two and test :)

3800 is pretty decent with that mobo and cpu - good work and give the DRAM calculator a try next time.

Btw never got any If above 1900Mhz stable on my 5950x so very impressive result.

Heres my setting with 4 stick Samsung B-die from Patriot

I just had a lot of stability issues because my tWR was set to 10 - memory OC is a patience game :)

I just don't think I understand enough for it to be possible. I get confused, frustrated and then use the punchbag (radiator).
