Does anyone have some ideas I haven't tried?

I just swapped out my 24GB (6 x 4GB) with 48GB (6 x 8GB) and all slots show populated in both the BIOS and AIDA64. However, only 32GB of the 48GB is showing installed in Windows (and during post)

Googling found various threads with a similar issue, but no solutions

I have tried the usual, swapping slots, reseating, BIOS is current/reset, blah blah... All six sticks are showing installed, just not the full amount of memory

Asus P6T Deluxe V2
Xeon X5680
Patriot Viper III 1866MHz DDR3

<shrug>

Solved: I Bumped the chip back up to 4.3GHz and stressed it for a couple of hours with Cinebench. Regeneration's comment about testing the ram one at a time made me think of it, so thank you. Sometimes it is the simplest of things.

Make sure lga pins aint bent, no board flex either

Get your manual here.

Read page xii

Also Xeon is not supported by Asus specs for that board.

You have hit hardware limit for that motherboard. And you will see it in the manual

I have been running a Xeon chip for a couple of years now as have hundreds of others, and the P6T will support up to 48GB of ram as well.

Not per asus.

So where does it say per asus it supports 48?

My board if trying to run Cas 9 at 2400 it would show 16GB detected only 8 useable, once at cas 10 the whole amt is useable, so its a hardware limit.

Did you try to boost relevant voltages like QPI/VTT and memory clocks/dividers/REFs?

Did you check that all memory modules work one by one?

24GB-32GB are usually the maximum supported RAM on these desktop X58 motherboards that mean't to be used with i7 or Xeon W series.

Xeon X series have no RAM limit (288GB?) but they require a server motherboard to achieve that.

Not trying to be a jerk here, but if you are not familiar with the board or its capabilities, why even comment?

Not individual sticks, but I did swap them around in their slots. All of them are being detected as installed. I have QPI/VTT bumped as part of my overclock (4.3GHz). However, this problem presented itself before I started to OC. I even set everything back to default, but the same. Plenty of people running 48GB on this board, so not sure what the issue is

Not "plenty of people", just a few, and its not 100% stable like they claim to be, since this amount of RAM, on 6 slots require a lot of voltage for the IMC, that its not really worth it.

Do you have 2Rx8 or 1Rx8? 2Rx8 is reported to work better.

Are you sure the last 2 slots and its pins aren't damaged? CPU reseated and all pins, both CPU and socket are fine?

Did you check stability with MemTest64 and HCI MemTest? sometimes missing RAM is because of low QPI/VTT and DDR voltages.

I ran 6 x 4GB (Crucial) with the X5680 for a little over a year without issue, but no OC. I haven't experienced any other issues, but who can really say if something was always wrong and just now decided to show itself. I have only been messing around with OCing to try and squeeze another year out of this setup.

You may be correct on the stable part. I fully admit I am not that experienced with tweaking voltages and OC settings. Going to fiddle with eh voltages a tad and report back

Thanks

You came here acting like you know more about that board than Asus, the engineers do, very arrogant and ignorant.

If you weren't trying to be a jerk why make that comment to begin with? That tells me you were being one.

You came here wondering why it doesn't work, I provided help, it's a free forum to do so.

Been dealing with hardware for 23 years, you may not want to disrespect veteran members if you are coming here for help, because next time you will not receive any.

It's like rushing into a parking spot that someone else had their indicator light on claiming it, and flipping the bird at that person telling them "fuck you" just to find out later they are the one interviewing you for a position within their company.

I researched your board as Regeneration did, It's not officially supported so it's a crapshoot.

You can't handle the truth coming from Asus.

My board I heard can support 64GB but that's unofficial, a crapshoot as well.

Good luck, you will need it.

@eidairaman1 The only person being disrespectful here is you. What is "officially" supported has long been past, so again, If you aren't familiar with running Xeon or extra ram in the P6T, why even comment at all?

@Regeneration Reset everything back to default and reseated the ram to no avail. HOWEVER, starting with three sticks and then stepping them up one at a time did the trick. All 48GB are now showing up.

Bumped the chip back up to 4.3GHz and stressed it for a couple of hours with Cinebench. Your comment about testing the ram one at a time made me think of it, so thank you. Sometimes it is the simplest of things

@Ayrton
Im with @Ayrton here. Not only did he come in asking for help you rushed to tell him how wrong he is rather than providing help.
You also seem to not have researched this board at all or you would know its a reasonably popular choice for those wanting to throw a Xeon in it, irrelevant of official support. And the same goes for 48GB of memory on boards like this.
Manufacturer QVL lists are neigh useless in most consumer cases, I have only ever owned a single motherboard, my current one, where my kit is on the QVL list. In fact most boards I owned had such miniscule lists of supported RAM that it wasnt even useful as a joke, its just how it goes. They very rarely try all sticks in existence and they almost never update them. So the lists are in most cases not particularly useful on consumer grade boards.
edit: Actually now that I look at it, i dont even think my current kit is on the QVL list, not with all four sticks.

Your comparison is also flawed, he was the one that asked for help and you came here to tell him its impossible and not supported so it will never work, your the one coming in giving him the bird. And instead of going "on neat you got 48GB running" you threaten him with being nice to the veteran who was in this case, wrong. And it wasn't even what he asked about, you directly avoided his question and issue just to tell him hes incorrect, thats just rude.

In fact the according to the current motherboard I have, my Powersupply is not supported, neither is my mouse, keyboard, headset or webcam. Because as you said, I could never go against the MSI engineers and try and use a unsupported device on the system, now could I?

Memory support is where compatability is important, fyi I deviate from the QVL, it's the amount and speed, and chip type of memory that is not guaranteed to work. Also another point, my system I have the ram not at 2133, but 2400 with timings as tight as they will go.

My point stands. No guarantee after a certain capacity that it will work.

We don't denigrate newcomers by playing the "veteran" card here. State your point politely, or don't - no one is forced to help anyone, but neither is anyone is obliged to accept advice in a particular way.

Hi,
So this solved the issue ?
If so add it to the op since you added solved to the title.
