i do computer repairs for my family and friends and today i got a call from a relative with a weird problem. the other day the laptop was working perfectly fine. today, he turned on the laptop and it looks like someone did a factory restore. the problem is, the recovery partition of the drive is unformated, and all his files are gone. now, no one claims to have done the recovery, so how did windows reinstall iteself and de-formated the contents of the recovery partition? could this be caused by some sort of a script virus or something? i pulled the drive out the laptop and am trying to recover some important files that were on the drive.
