PROBLEM SOLVED! - Dead CPU

Hey guys,

My Dad recently got his old PC down which has an AMD Athlon 2500 Skt 462, but it refuses to boot. We tried changing the GPU, Memory and the PSU and even tried just plugging in the motherboard but yet it didn't work.

I think it's either the motherboard that's dead or the CPU. But how can the mobo go if it's been sat on a shelf unplugged for a few months?

Well anyway I tried taking out the CPU just to check and it has a kind of "scorch" mark on it like it's burnt out but we only fired it up for a few seconds at a time, and it was working before we put it on the shelf.

Scorch marks:

Edit:

The mobo is an M7NCD Pro

never seen something like that before, but it would have me worried.

CPU definitly dead.. burned out..

What would of caused it to burn out as the PSU is fine. Or is it one of those things where it's just been worn out?

Overheated i guess..

But it was fine before we put it on the shelf and we only ran it for about 10 seconds each time we tried starting it up!

What ever the how whats or whys, its dead bud.You could try it in a differant board to test it,but it seems it gone.RIP sorry for your loss.

Could be that it got some damp or condensation somewhere in the PC and short circuited, causing the CPU to burn out....

Lol ^^ :D That put a smile on my face :).

Anyway I have no other AMD Board as the rest of the ones in the house are all Intel based =/.

But anyway I'll tell my Dad to buy another CPU for it anyway.
