I have an old android phone, android 8.1, i use it for a specific use only, and the only thing i need from him refuses to work. All the notifications, alarms, anything that requires him to do a sound alert doesn't work. If i reset it to factory it works for a couple of weeks, then it stops again. Anyone got any ideas as to what is going on? it isn't a hardware issue and i can't figure out what changes in the software side to make this happen.
There is no option to stop him from doing sound notifications or have i ever changed any options after a reset and still this keeps happening.

What phone do you have?
On newer MiUI devices and on some other vendors there's a feature that removes all permissions for rarely used apps, which may occasionally glitch out and remove it even on frequently used apps. Don't remember exactly when this thing was introduced, but I haven't seen it on anything older than android 10.
Another culprit may be power saving mode. Some cheap older phones had this glitch, where WiFi/4G would stay off all the time when the screen is off, e.g. you can only receive notifications over internet only when you pick it up. There should be a setting that will keep wifi/data on while in standby, but it will have dire consequences for your battery life. Used to be a nightmare on Meizu and Redmi phones.

^surely odd. There were some older android phones that became dead if the battery went below 2.5V, would not take recharge.
Resurrected a couple of old androids with the "9V battery" revive method(can be found on YT).
At 1st I thought it was a joke, but seemed easy enough so gave it try. It actually worked. Recharge took after that.
