Although it has been 3 years.Right I have a D5400xs too and i guess it does not support UEFI graphics cards. I can enter the Bios, but the disk drive cannot be recognized.Code will healt on 0_. If I use the DUET of the USB flash drive to simulate UEFI to boot it, the new graphics card works perfectly in Windows or hackintosh. AMD wx4100 and Rtx3060Ti have the same situation, but they run on another 775 motherboard.did u Have any way about this issues
Sounds like you already have the workaround - without proper BIOS support, that's about all you can do

Actually, I didn't try it. Thanks for the hint. But I have a faulty Asus Z7S-WS which I'm going to repair. It seems to be working fine with my UEFI card. Besides, Z7S-WS is utilizing PCIe 2.0 unlike D5400XS and has more RAM slots.

Thank you, the same idea as you, z7s ws is more reasonable than d5400XS in many aspects

Plenty of people testing new cards on old systems for fun on YouTube and it works just fine. I’ve seen as new as an RTX 4060 with a P4. I just some Ram and I can do the same test with a 7800 XT lol.

yap , I tried some graphics cards. Some motherboards cannot believe that a graphics card does not have a VGA or DVI interface and has nothing to do with UEFi.

I just used second GPU for bootup, and allowed Windows driver to take care of things after that (it IS a pain to get it working though).

Just to contribute to the dismantlement of misinformation: all new gpus work with any motherboard that includes a minimum of a pci-e slot, be it bios uefi or hybrid, only exceptions are some older DELL and HP motherboards that feature their own in-house in bios.

However keep in mind that if your motherboard does not support resizable bar some performance loss will occur.

Personally i use GA-78LMT-USB3-REV6.0 motherboard from 2013 with an RX 5500 XT gpu and it works just fine. I ll keep this system unitl PC gets borked or if UEFI becomes a hard requirement for my OS.
