one CPU core at 100% all the time when GPU-Z is running

GPU-Z 2.53.0 on Win10 on an Acer Predator laptop. System details:

GPU-Z is configured to start automatically, minimized to systray.

As long as GPU-Z is running, one CPU core out of 12 is always at 100%. Even when the app is minimized to systray, one core is still busy. Or if I maximize the app, it's still the same. It's annoying because the fans spin a little faster than what's normal for idle mode. So the laptop is never fully quiet anymore.

If I quit GPU-Z, then CPU usage returns to very close to 0 on all cores.

Looking at the Processes tab in Task Manager, it's the System process that uses the core. When GPU-Z quits, System returns to near 0% CPU usage.

I believe this has started to happen recently, but I don't know exactly when.

Are you logging?

tested version 2.52 and 2.53: CPU Usage is from the application is 0%.

In my case that is also true.

It is the System process that takes an entire core, not the GPU-Z process. But the correlation is unmistakable: when I kill the GPU-Z app, the System process does not take an entire core any longer.

well this can be everything then... from power plans over background updates to defender stuff.

Hi,
Try the portable ROG version I'm using 2.52 I don't see any cores stuck on max.
